I mean, it WOULD take a forbidden tome from some ancient esoteric religion to make sense of imperial measurement conversions.
And then try taking all that and interpreting it for British folks who are used to using measurements than are consistent and make sense, but are trying to follow recipes written by Americans. 🤷‍♀️

A quart is roughly a liter, a pound is roughly half a kilo, a mile is roughly a klick and a half,, I don't give a fig about acres and hectares, 25c is pleasant and every 5c is a 10F departure. That's my rough and ready conversion.

I didn't mean so much being able readily to convert (no need -- I have digital scales that do that for me) but if someone tells me about half a litre of something, or three-quarters of a pound, I know what they mean without having to convert. Grams and ounces i have to think about for smaller conversions, which means I usually end up cooking in metric, simply because I've got a set of metric measuring spoons, so I use metric measures to go with them.

ETA: Having now seen Wolfies' post above, I have to say I suppose the ability to convert between grams and ounces in your head too readily might, in some circumstances, be considered suspicious.

LMAO... a lot of my engineering classes alternated between using metric and imperial units in problems. Despite that, I still feel like I only directly grasp the things I learned first. For example, I learned how tall a 6 foot person is in imperial, so human metric heights only make sense to me if I convert. I originally learned most things in imperial, so that's what I normally think in. But there are exceptions... thermodynamics and metallurgical information makes more sense to me in metric because that's how I originally learned them. So for outdoor temperatures I still think in Fahrenheit, but for heat treating steel I immediately think of Celsius values...

Height seems to be the one remaining measurement that people I know (even those born after 1973) are usually familiar with in imperial. Oh, that and pints / half pints in a pub.

A person who's one meter tall is a toddler. A person who's two meters tall is a giant. For that reason, I just visualize height in feet better.

We all avoided imperial units for light and energy anyway. We could have had

16 wallwarts (ww) = 1/4 lightbulb (lb)
4 lightbulbs (lb) = 1 television (tv)
4 televisions(tv) = 1 hairdryer (hd)

So 1024 ww per hd.
