I hope they don't open up legacy names. This may sound a little weird. I like it that as far as I know I am the first Roxie in SL and only one of a hand full of Martens that still play. I had toyed with the idea of having a Marten family reunion event

but but,... weird new relatives, how could you want to miss out on them?

What a bullshit marketing move, you cannot see the list without being Premium first... they won't sell much that way.

Get a damn marketing specialist LL! If you have employees claiming to be some sell the current team to Wookey and get a new one, it is hard to come out worse even if you replace the current marketing team with interns.

I agree. And it's a vanity product that most people are probably only going to take advantage of once, so it would need to be priced accordingly for LL to make money. Once all the people who are dissatisfied with their alphanumeric usernames get their name changed to something they prefer, they are unlikely to do so again in any hurry.

It's not for changing our names every week - we have screen names for that.

Hilarious that you can buy Resident as last name.

I think the thing to remember is that is not just the return of "last names" per se - it's the introduction of the facility to change our usernames, including NOT having a last name at all, even if you have one already. I suspect that's what the "Resident" option is about.

They're not. They already said somewhere in the official forums that legacy names will not be coming back as choices.

It's a vanity product to bring back some of the old features which really made up Second Life, you got for free until the end of 2010 and nobody ever asked for its removal.

40 US$ + premium status is way over the top.

For comparison: if you want to rename your character in Blizzard's cash cow MMORPG World of Warcraft you pay only 10 US$.

I love this idea of a family reunion. The few Fates that haven't faded into the Ether have attended the SL^h^hVVO gatherings so we've have a chance to touch base then.
