I would consider a new last name, if there were choises in the totally normal name department like Smith, Jones, or Hermans.
Not everybody wants to be the wittiest kid in town.

Amelia Aurelia has a zing to it, but I'll wait for THE ultimate name before I drop $40.

So you're saying that people who want to buy a normal-looking full name shouldn't have the option?
Read what I typed. Did I directly say anything of the sort? No, I did not. It was not even implied unless you are doing mental gymnastics.

Then what exactly do you mean? If new names are all "quirky" where does that leave people looking for a normal new name?

I said exactly what I meant: Names should not need to pass as 'normal'. There's no meaning whatsoever beyond that so stop trying to find one.

As to where it leaves users looking for a 'normal' sounding name: it leaves them in the exact same boat as those who do not like any of the names being offered at the time - they'll have to wait just like some had to do, before they got rid of Last Names.

Not ideal, certainly. it is, however, what it is. Want that to change? Get enough users together who want the same thing, file a JIRA and go to Town Halls and such. just like the users that wanted to have the ability to change their names did.

Should Linden Lab have thought about this beforehand? Sure. They didn't and anyone that actually expected them to do so either had no idea what company they were talking about or decided to just ignore their track record on such feature implementations.

Normal (i.e. RL) names like, say, Violet Blue?
I've encountered a Blue before, along with Blacks, Browns, and Greens.

Sands was the least bad option when I joined (didn't know about refreshing).
EVE Online, FFXIV, Wildstar all gave me more freedom with naming my characters.

The vast majority of names here are unexceptional last names that you would not be surprised to encounter in everyday life.
