We'd be seeing a lot more delays while browsing & searching our inventory if it was caching that information on demand instead of upon login.

At the very minimum, the viewer would have to have on hand: Inventory Type, Name, Acquisition Time, Creator, Description

Links would need only type, acquisition time and 'link' (a key or inventory index integer, who knows, but it points at metadata not the actual asset itself)

Like I said, you don't need to download much data for an asset. Really, that's not that much data.

You'd also need permissions, possibly on both, because you can search on permissions.

I suspect the link is a path because apparently moving an asset doesn't always work right and you need to get it to recover the link, at least Firestorm's login hints talk about that once a month or so.

I can't imagine wanting to do this. My "outfits" vary radically in size and shape and almost always require adjusting *everything* to match.

Outfits are just awesome to use.
It saves everything: your complete avatar, clothing, skin, huds, hair, glasses, without taking it out of the original folders.
Once the outfits are saved, changing takes just seconds.
To a formal party: click and the tux is on. No searching for shoes, top hat or cane, it is all there as it was the moment you saved it in seconds, even if it comes out of 25 different folders.
End of the party: click and back to the usual outfit.
It is that simple.

I have hundreds of outfits, organized in a tree, there's no way I could find what I want to wear in a flat outfits folder. Way quicker to click down to the one I want.

Plus I can't wear the top hat sized for one avatar on another anyway, so it has to be copied anyway.
