Sorry Mr. "Agent," but the sandwich was not what made you smell bad. :p
I saw someone on Threads refer to him as "The Hurl of Sandwich," and I about died rolling on the floor laughing.

"Any thoughts on Dick Cheney dying."

He provided the most appropriate response I could possibly...no. Shaking my head for no response? That isn't in me.

Its really interesting to hear from the interviewee just how much their response was twisted and propagandized. I almost wonder if it would do any good to publish the contents of what they sent to the times. So people can do a sort of, side by side.

Yeh, I spoke to a reporter, once, when the Internet was young, and porn on the Internet even younger, and his selective misquoting of my answers to his questions was instructive.

“People read Foucault,” the redoubtable David Brooks once wrote, in an actual column that I’ve all but committed to memory, “and develop an alienated view of the world.” God, did I love this. An “alienated view of the world”! Not by, like, trying to pay rent or having an insurance claim denied—no, no, it was probably the Foucault you read in 2003.

I read Derrida, Foucault and (God help us) a bit of Althusser and Lacan way back in the 80s, when it was just starting to be cool. Left me very alienated indeed, particularly by French Marxists. Derrida is worth the effort, and Foucault's subjects are very interesting though I'm not sure about his conclusions, but Althusser and Lacan are simply incomprehensible, or I found them so. And, as a psychoanalyst friend explained, "After reading Lacan you begin to understand why so many of his patients ended up killing themselves."

I'm hardly one to stand up for prayer, but this seems bonkers. Seems like an obvious Freedom of Speech violation.

Federal authorities told demonstrators Friday that there would be “no more prayer” in front of or inside the Broadview ICE facility, in a move that mystified local leaders and raised legal questions.

A federal representative delivered the news to a huddle of faith leaders and activists standing outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility Friday, speaking after faith leaders were denied entry to the building for the third time Friday.
Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills, whose department helped facilitate the phone call, said that he was “trying to figure out” in discussions with Mayor Katrina Thompson and an attorney if a federal agency could legally ban religious gatherings on land owned by the village. Religious groups previously have been allowed to practice outside the facility, he said.

Thankful they turned their nose up on this, and at the vile Davis.

Supreme Court declines to revisit landmark same-sex marriage precedent
The Supreme Court on Monday declined an opportunity to overturn its landmark precedent recognizing a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, tossing aside an appeal that had roiled LGBTQ advocates who feared the conservative court might be ready to revisit the decade-old decision.

Instead, the court denied an appeal from Kim Davis, the former Kentucky county clerk who now faces hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages and legal fees for refusing to issue marriage licenses after the court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges allowed same-sex couples to marry.

Recall that 105-mile-long futuristic city in the desert that Saudi Arabia is building?

It appears that Neom—Saudi Arabia’s hugely expensive, architecturally bizarre urban development project—is floundering and close to collapse. A new report from the Financial Times cites high-level sources within the project to paint a picture of dysfunction and failure at the heart of the quixotic effort.

Neom was envisioned as a vast series of fantastical urban developments spread across the coast of the Red Sea. At the center of the project is The Line—a proposed 105-mile-long city which developers had initially projected could house as many as 9 million people by the year 2030. The Line is defined by bizarre architectural flourishes that, as the story notes, have seemed impossible even to the execs tasked with making them a reality.

None of the Mamdani volunteers I met considered themselves to be campaigning for a Democrat; most (like me) didn’t even consider themselves Democrats, except for voting for the party’s candidates as the lesser of two evils. We were stumping for socialism, for human rights and economic justice.

U.S. political discourse should get real about the two-party system. The parties we have now are MAGA on the extreme right and the Democrats, on the center right, the same position occupied by centrist Republicans of the faded past, the ones who voted to establish Medicare and public radio and were prepared to convict Nixon of high crimes and misdemeanors.

For some reason I keep on thinking of W B Yeats' poem, The Second Coming

The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.

Pam Bondi and the DOJ are getting even more involved with Trump's desires.

The Justice Department on Thursday sued to block new congressional district boundaries approved by California voters last week, joining a court battle that could help determine which party wins control of the U.S. House in 2026.

The complaint filed in California federal court targets the new congressional map pushed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in response to a similar Republican-led effort in Texas backed by President Donald Trump. It sets the stage for a high-stakes legal and political fight between the Republican administration and the Democratic governor, who’s seen as a likely 2028 presidential contender.
“California’s redistricting scheme is a brazen power grab that tramples on civil rights and mocks the democratic process,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in an emailed statement. “Governor Newsom’s attempt to entrench one-party rule and silence millions of Californians will not stand.”
Pam "rules for thee, not for me" Bondi, everyone.
