I actually believe Elon on this one... He's not compassionate enough to be liberal, but also too decadent and impulsive to be much of a conservative. He is just an idiot who wants so badly for people to like him and to act like he's too smart for either side.

LOL well you knew there had to be a story that we weren't getting

OpenAI responds to Musk lawsuit by releasing emails

In the emails, parts of which have been redacted, Musk argues that the company stood virtually no chance of building a successful generative AI platform by raising cash alone, and the company needed to find alternate sources of revenue to survive.

In a November 22, 2015, email to CEO Sam Altman, Musk, an OpenAI co-founder, said the company needed to raise much more than $100 million to “avoid sounding hopeless.” Musk suggested a $1 billion funding commitment and promised that he would cover whatever did not get raised.

OpenAI in a blog post Tuesday night said Musk never followed through on his promise, committing $45 million in funding for OpenAI, while other donors raised $90 million. Lawyers for Musk declined to comment on OpenAI’s claims.

Musk, in a February 1, 2018, email, told company executives that the only path forward for OpenAI was for Tesla, his electric car company, to buy it. The company refused, and Musk left OpenAI later that year.

In December 2018, Musk emailed Altman and other executives that OpenAI would not be relevant “without a dramatic change in execution and resources.”

“This needs billions per year immediately or forget it,” Musk emailed. “I really hope I’m wrong.”

“We’re sad that it’s come to this with someone whom we’ve deeply admired—someone who inspired us to aim higher, then told us we would fail, started a competitor, and then sued us when we started making meaningful progress towards OpenAI’s mission without him,” the company said in its blog post.

He sure doesn't do much to make himself likeable, except perhaps by the dregs of society. Punchable, for sure, but not likeable.
It's way way easier to appeal to shitty people than not shitty people.

Especially in a more clearly visible way.

Like not shitty people might and probably like a person, but they aren't trumpeting that person constantly.

For shitty people you just yell offensive shit and everyone goes FUCK YEAH! back. It makes that "likeability high" easier.

Musk wants to opensource his misbehaving chatbot thingie named Grok. Question is: who cares, and will the release the language model as well?

A Tesla Touchscreen Mix-Up Killed Angela Chao: Report
Angela Chao — billionaire sister of former Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao and sister-in-law of Mitch McConnell — died last month when her Tesla Model X sank in a manmade pond on her 900-acre Texas ranch. She was trapped in the car as it flooded, unable to open the unpowered doors, as friends and rescue crews tried to find a way to break in. Now, a report from the Wall Street Journal claims the Tesla’s touchscreen-based shifting interface may have contributed to her getting in the water to begin with.
Back in 2021, Tesla moved to a touchscreen interface for shifting its cars. According to the Wall Street Journal, that touchscreen was a feature that had previously caused problems for Chao. The report claims that, while attempting to make a three-point turn, Chao inadvertently put the Tesla in reverse instead of forward:
Within minutes of saying her goodbyes, she called one of her friends in a panic. While making a three-point turn, she had put the car in reverse instead of drive, she said. It is a mistake she had made before with the Tesla gearshift. The car had zipped backward, tipping over an embankment and into a pond. It was sinking fast. Could they help her?
Nope, they couldn't.

Jim Breyer, Angela Chao's husband, doesn't blame the car. From the Wall Street Journal (subscription required):
No one in the family blames Tesla, according to a person familiar with the situation. Breyer and his wife had three Teslas and loved them, and often spoke about how electric vehicles were good for the planet. Breyer considers himself a friend of Elon Musk’s.

I rented a car a while ago that used a rotary knob as the gear selector. I disliked that thing. A lot. But putting it on a touchscreen interface is just beyond idiotic!

There is a manual release on the doors. Sadly, I think a combo of drinking, sheer panic, and fast sinking heavy car led to this tragedy. If you have a Tesla, familiarize yourself with the manual door release, because if you don't open that door immediately, it will be impossible with the water pressure rising. That is for any car really. I know of people who carry those window breakers with them just for that reason. If you live near bodies of water, it is worth it.

This is not just about Tesla (though they appear to be tops in this), but you know, it touches on Musk so WE GOTTA FOCUS ON THE CLICKBAIT.

Tesla paid no federal income taxes while paying executives $2.5 billion over five years
In case you need another reason to shout "tax the rich" from the rooftops, it's here, and it's going to make you angry. A study found that 35 major US companies paid their top five executives more than they paid in federal income taxes between 2018 and 2022, the Guardian reports. The findings, which come from The Institute for Policy Studies and Americans for Tax Fairness, are even less shocking when you learn the worst offender: Tesla.

Elon Musk's company earned $4.4 billion during those five years and gave its executives $2.5 billion. Despite that, Tesla not only didn't pay any federal taxes, but it received $1 million in refunds from the government. Musk himself is the second richest person in the world, with Forbes reporting he had a net worth of $207.9 billion at the start of March.

Fallout from the Don Lemon interview.

In a new interview, Elon Musk said prescription ketamine has been helpful in treating his occasional depressive episodes and suggested that taking the drug has been beneficial for investors in his companies.

Musk, speaking with former CNN anchor Don Lemon in an interview that was posted online Monday, claimed that he takes a “small amount once every other week” — sometimes less frequently — to treat what he described as “chemical tides” that can cause his depression.

“Ketamine is helpful for getting one out of a negative frame of mind,” the Tesla and SpaceX chief executive told Lemon.
Skittle-skatter, depression! I'm sending Ketamine your way!!!
