Following allegations that Elon Musk broke up Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s marriage by having an affair with Brin’s wife, Nicole Shanahan, no one is denying the affair with more fervor than Shanahan herself.

Elon Musk cares enough about Elon Musk for all of us.

I've also always made the point that you never really BUY a Tesla, you rent it. Tesla can reach in and change the features of your car with a software update. They have rolled back higher versions of cars to the base model when they get resold because they say only ythe origianl buyer paid for those features and they are not transferable. Really fucks up the resale value.

Exactly. Tesla has a horrible record of supporting garages and aftermarket parts. One of the reasons that they are pressing for direct sales laws instead of dealerships. And also why states passed laws against direct sales, as automakers were abusing their repair monopolies. Modern computer controls and connected vehicles have greatly increased the ability of manufacturers to abuse their customers over longer times. And don't even get started on what happens when a company shuts down servers for older products. If your car has to phone home, you never own it.

I don't see how that would work. The proprietary code is probably burned permanently into the 1000+ chips in a modern car.

Good point. I guess it was wishful thinking that there'd be just one central computer that controls everything, that could be reflashed.

This is how Skynet starts. Self-driving, self-aware cars with millions of chips that can't be turned off or altered by non-Telsa humans. And Musk likes automation, eventually there will be no humans at Telsa (there'll be Musk, but he's a Bond villain, so I don't think he counts).
