I dipped into the Twitter sub reddit and it's also apparently being flooded with videos of violent deaths as well. Lots of people complaining about it.

The UEJF posted a message on X saying: “The nomination of Gabriel Attal as prime minister is the object of a new wave of antisemitic and homophobic hatred on X. It’s no longer the moment for condemnation but for action.”

The union called for sanctions against anyone writing hate speech on the platform. They said there should be prison sentences for those promoting hatred and fines against X itself, which it said “refuses to moderate hatred”.

After Attal’s appointment this week, Yonathan Arfi, the head of the Crif umbrella group of Jewish organisations, complained of “a wave of homophobic and antisemitic commentary on social media”. Arfi said that for those driven by hatred Attal was being reduced to his sexual orientation and the origin of his surname.

Is this a joke? It's gotta be.

X is launching three new shows on the platform to be hosted by former CNN anchor Don Lemon, former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and sports radio commentator Jim Rome.

The social media platform, which has been struggling to retain advertisers ever since Elon Musk’s takeover in 2022, announced the partnerships Tuesday.

Lemon, Gabbard and Rome join ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who launched his show on X last June after parting ways with Fox News.

A fake video manipulated to falsely depict President Joe Biden inappropriately touching his granddaughter has revealed flaws in Facebook's "deepfake" policies, Meta's Oversight Board concluded Monday.

Last year when the Biden video went viral, Facebook repeatedly ruled that it did not violate policies on hate speech, manipulated media, or bullying and harassment. Since the Biden video is not AI-generated content and does not manipulate the president's speech—making him appear to say things he's never said—the video was deemed OK to remain on the platform. Meta also noted that the video was "unlikely to mislead" the "average viewer."

"The video does not depict President Biden saying something he did not say, and the video is not the product of artificial intelligence or machine learning in a way that merges, combines, replaces, or superimposes content onto the video (the video was merely edited to remove certain portions)," Meta's blog said.
The Oversight Board—an independent panel of experts—reviewed the case and ultimately upheld Meta's decision despite being "skeptical" that current policies work to reduce harms.

"The board sees little sense in the choice to limit the Manipulated Media policy to cover only people saying things they did not say, while excluding content showing people doing things they did not do," the board said, noting that Meta claimed this distinction was made because "videos involving speech were considered the most misleading and easiest to reliably detect."

More le sighing.

Lax content moderation on X (aka Twitter) has disrupted coordinated efforts between social media companies and law enforcement to tamp down on "propaganda accounts controlled by foreign entities aiming to influence US politics," The Washington Post reported.

Now propaganda is "flourishing" on X, The Post said, while other social media companies are stuck in endless cycles, watching some of the propaganda that they block proliferate on X, then inevitably spread back to their platforms.

Meta, Google, and then-Twitter began coordinating takedown efforts with law enforcement and disinformation researchers after Russian-backed influence campaigns manipulated their platforms in hopes of swaying the 2016 US presidential election.
The next year, all three companies promised Congress to work tirelessly to stop Russian-backed propaganda from spreading on their platforms. The companies created explicit election misinformation policies and began meeting biweekly to compare notes on propaganda networks each platform uncovered, according to The Post's interviews with anonymous sources who participated in these meetings.

However, after Elon Musk purchased Twitter and rebranded the company as X, his company withdrew from the alliance in May 2023.

And now for another broadcast approved by Minitruth, which our beloved Big Brother Musk reposted:

Probably more bots.... and none of these directly result in cashflow. Musk has confirmed (last I checked) that they are still hemorrhaging cash. I do suspect they still have a lot of real users, but it doesn't look like they have a real revenue source beyond ads most people block and the subscriptions most people don't get.

They claimed back in October (most recent I could find) that they are cash positive except for the debt payment... but that's no minor detail.

Free speech absolutist

X user and Indian journalist Mohammed Zubair wrote on Monday that "many influential X accounts" of reporters, influencers and prominent farm unionists covering farmers' protest in India were "suspended".
Mandeep Punia, a journalist, told the BBC that his account and that of his news platform - Gaon Savera - have been withheld.
"We are professional journalists covering rural India. We are reporting from the ground and the government doesn't want that. The government is blocking our voice, but equally this also affects our livelihood, our means of earning a living," he said

US judge signals Elon Musk's X may lose case against hate speech watchdog
A U.S. judge on Thursday signaled he may dismiss X Corp's lawsuit against a nonprofit group that has criticized a rise in hate speech on the social media platform once known as Twitter since Elon Musk took it over.

X sued the Center for Countering Digital Hate last July, accusing it of causing tens of millions of dollars in damages through a "scare campaign" to drive away advertisers.
U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer was skeptical that when the nonprofit entered the standard user contract governing all Twitter and X users, it could have foreseen that Musk would buy Twitter for $44 billion in 2022 and welcome back users it had banned for posting hateful content.

"You're telling me ... it was foreseeable that Twitter would change its policy and allow these people to have access," the San Francisco-based judge told X's lawyer Jon Hawk in a video conference.

"I am trying to figure out, in my mind, how that's possibly true, because I don't think it is."
