Ann Coulter is completely losing her shit on Twitter since this morning. It's actually fun to watch!

Just one example:
It is known as essential functions annie, there are some things that will happen unless the government has literally 0.0000000000000000000000000 assets.

Good. Sooner the GOP dies the better for the country.
I want it to split rather than die. We need a crazy far right religious party and a far left liberal party and a moderately conservative party and a socialist party and a communist party with no clear majority and much less chance of re-election when they don’t work rogether to get things done.

My inclination is to not vote for any federal incumbant in 2020. They’re all punishing us for their own selfish pride. Is it in this forum that drunk posting is not allowed?

Under our current system multiple parties aren't possible. We don't have a two party system because we want to, we have a two party system because that's the natural end state of the mechanics that we're working with. All a third party can do is siphon votes away from the party they are most ideologically compatible with, resulting in the party they are most opposed to winning. So instead of a third party running they glom on to the larger party and try to get elected under that banner then influence things from the inside once they are there.

Not to say we shouldn't try and change things, we absolutely should, but it's a longer process than that.

And no, Democrats are not punishing us for their own selfish pride. It's entirely on the heads of the GOP. Don't vote if you don't want to, i'm not your mom, but blaming all politicians for this shit is ridiculous.

If more states follow Maine's new system, multiple party systems could work. And a part of me really wishes that it does spread. The idea of going 'I like this candidate best, but this one isn't too bad, and this one would be okay, I guess, and then omg, no!' is a good system, and probably the most likely one to get at least a decent option, instead of maybe being lucky enough for the good choice to get it, instead of the bad one. And would get us away from voting against someone, instead of for someone.

Just one example:
I'm wondering: could it be that the real reason why Trump shut down the government was to slow down the Mueller investigation, and that Stone's arrest made him realize that it wouldn't work?

I think that might be something worth looking into.

You'll need at least two constitutional amendments as well as changes in state constitutions to switch to a parliamentary system, eliminate the electoral college, re-balance the senate, switch to a transferable vote/instant runoff system, and so on.

Well, the founding fathers never expected the original system to last this long without radical retooling. All in all, I guess we learned a few things from this experiment. Like never do it in this form ever again.
