So... just for numbers - the US has 5% of the world's pop and 1/5 the cases... that is some seriously screwed up math.

It's worse than that. We have 7.8 times as many cases relative to population vs the world as a whole. But to be fair, Africa has a very low case rate so far. Developing countries don't travel as much or get as many travelers, so they are still getting started with their epidemic. I expect it to get much worse over there.

Apparently he made these remarks at an event in The East Room to celebrate his signing a proclamation declaring May to be "Older Americans Month," whatever that means.

I don't think it really matters what the event is -- give him a microphone and a room full (half-full, with physical distancing) of reporters and he's off.

Many areas in Africa still don't have extensive testing, either. They can't possibly know the extent of the pandemic until they do. Same thing for the US.
