Just a few sentences in, I spot a lie. Granted, SOME such as hospitals were doing everything they could to procure protective equipment, and some places such as grocery stores also tried to protect with little shields, but the vast majority of businesses did no such thing. Some of the meatpacking plants did everything in their power to hide when their workers got sick. We've all seen the businesses that defied the shutdown orders and very few required masks of their workers/customers let alone provided them.

As I continue to read, I'm sure I'm going to spot many a lie. Many of us have read sci-fi novels about a dystopian future. We're there.

Businesses in the United States kicked into 12 action to produce and procure personal protective 13 equipment, such as masks, gloves, face shields, and 14 hand sanitizer, and other necessary medical supplies, 15 such as ventilators, at unprecedented rates.

How are your cities, states, countries managing homelessness and the homeless in the midst of COVID?

Mine converted and opened a large convention centre complete with separate areas for the symptomatic when shelters and meal kitchens closed during the lockdown, but it was actually not as well received or fully used by the target audience as expected. Especially once summer hit, many preferred various tent options through the river valley and parks, taking control over their own self isolation.

the smaller regular shelters have reopened now, with additional measures, so the City is planning to close the convention centre option. Oddly enough, the voices most opposed to this are not necessarily advocates of the homeless population but rather every day people worried the homeless will somehow go around infecting people.

It’s really weird, because the centre was never a lock down. It’s not like the homeless were being kept separate so they don’t infect society. It was to temporarily replace existing shelters and provide more space for the occupants as well as give them somewhere to either isolate if symptomatic or recover. There actually hasn’t been any cases in the homeless population that I’ve heard of though. they aren’t likely to start infecting people.

Personally I think it’s too early to close it, cases are rising and when fall sets in people will want an indoor option that provides more social distancing than traditional shelters. It’s costing the city a fortune though given how little used it is.

what are your communities doing?

Mpls Park Board opened up one city parks for the homeless. It became a problem in one particular park with crime-related activities like rape and murder so now they've scattered them to all city parks.

I don't believe they are doing a single thing for these folks as it relates to Covid-19.

Nah, it's cool, I usually hear it phrased as "The survival rate is over 95%".
The latest trick by the right is to calculate the mortality rate by taking the entire US population and dividing it by the number of deaths, instead of using the total number infected divided by number of deaths. And a lot of them aren't even multiplying the final number by 100 to get a percentage. So now they're all trumpeting about how this virus has a "99.998% survival rate". Fucking idiots!

Meanwhile, I had found this gem on Quora that I like to use when the argument turns toward how the virus is "no big deal". I find conservatives quit talking to me after I post that.

Yeah, I have been seeing this as well.

The stupid part is, at the moment, they then do the same with "seasonal flu". Because currently the COVID deaths are around the same average seasonal flu deaths (nevermind that way less people have gotten COVID).

It's a variant of the argument that is "it's basically the seasonal flu."
