My bad, ... I grew so accustomed to the unbelieveable hillybilly shenanigans in Trumpistan I took it for real - It totally could have been as far as we've seen so far.
Oh, I agree. Most of the stuff he said could have come from any of the MAGA rants I've seen on social media (not that I look for them, but sometimes you can't avoid them) but every now and again he drops in stuff that's so crazy, it can't be right -- "The three 'G's: God, Guns and Country!", for example. And a MAGA evangelical Christianist wouldn't be dipping his fingers in holy water, no matter how many thousands of other folks had done the same.

The Times on the short- and long-term economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic:

Much of it is UK-specific (e.g. the very welcome news that the self-employed will now enjoy similar income guarantees to those already made to employees) but some of it is applicable everywhere, I think -- particularly this:

The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) forecast that 20,620 shops would close permanently this year, with the loss of 235,714 jobs.

Retail experts warned that even before coronavirus, UK chains were struggling because of soaring property costs, wage bills and changing shopping habits which have reduced profitability.

Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR, said: “We expect large retail businesses to be looking at exactly how many stores they expect to operate in 2021 and beyond in order to trade successfully. They will now make plans to achieve those [objectives].”

Restructuring experts predict that already struggling retailers such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, Ann Summers and Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia will not reopen scores of stores.

Some of the country’s biggest retailers, including Primark and New Look, have demanded rent holidays from their landlords in order to weather the loss of sales while shops are shut.

A good breakdown of how the money will be distributed according to the bill that just passed:

It is. The man is a comedian and has been putting out videos for quite a while now. He gets his share of responders who think he's the real deal, but if you really pay attention, it's funny and painful.
Thanks - I live in Florida so I would have continued on thinking he was the real deal if you'd not shared this. :giggle:

Tammy Duckworth brings home what working from home with kids is like: Senator Tammy Duckworth shares her remote working fail in Democratic caucus call

So today I didn’t realize I was off mute and told the Democratic Caucus (including a couple recent presidential candidates) that “...mommy is working honey, please go potty and wash your hands then mommy will come downstairs.”
I did something similar in an engineering meeting recently. I thought I was on mute while one of the engineers was presenting and my cat wandered in smelling to high heaven. Apparently she had been out there rolling in fresh manure. I asked her "why are you so stinky" and suddenly I hear absolute silence on the webex. Then a bunch of laughter, so I had to explain. 🤪

It's the extreme outliers who get all the attention.

Hope he gets reinfected - chances are good. I bet he thinks he's immune to it now (hint: a week back it already looked like we had 6 distinct different genetic lines - if it behaves like other coronaviruses, immunity won't last - this will also smother any plans on "herd immunity")

I don't wish that he gets it again. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. However, what I don't understand is how he can think it is no big deal given how many people around the word are indeed dying from it.

Some people cannot conceive of anything outside their own experience and lack empathy for those who have different experiences from their own. It's pretty much a Republican position on anything at all. Dunno if he falls into that camp or not, but he definitely lacks empathy.

He should be kissing the ground and thanking his lucky stars for "There go I but for the grace of..*insert belief".

If only he'd sold it all and invested in a peanut farm.
If Trump had invested in a S&P 500 index fund when he inherited from his dad, instead of his ego, he would be much richer than he is today. For that matter, if he had stuck to ordinary apartment rentals, which is what the Trump family business started with, instead of fancy hotels and casinos, he'd still be so much richer.

It's the extreme outliers who get all the attention.

“It’s not going to kill the vast majority of the population,” he said. “People are hearing 3.4% mortality. They’re not hearing the 96.6% survival rate.”
Well, he certainly is a glass half full kind of guy.

Someone's typing out some version of YOU MEAN 96.6% FULL KINDA GUY AMIRITE?
