It's summertime, put your [presumably dead] orchid outside where it can get rain and sun and it may actually come back. It's happened for me before. Orchids don't really like being indoors. Here in Florida, I just tie them to trees and let them be.

Seriously Sid, I did not see a single actual "orchid" when I googled it,

But yep that's how I usually put them on the trees. I also have a piece of driftwood that I tie many of them to. The orchids on the drift wood are more sensitive to cold weather so if they are all in one place, if there is a freeze in the winter I can cover the whole drift wood with plastic and straw to keep them warm.

If anyone is doing composting:

Last Christmas I got an outdoor two stage composter, which I was thrilled to have. I also got a Lynk stainless steel canister so that I could put things to compost from the kitchen, directly into the canister (something like this): Amazon.com: Gold Star Kitchens Compost Bin - Premium Quality SAE304 Surgical Grade Stainless Steel Pail - 1.3 Gal - Deluxe Silicone Handle - Dual Carbon Filter System Eliminates Odors - Includes 2 Bonus Filters: Kitchen & Dining

What I normally do is load up the Lynk from the kitchen and then, when it's full, take it out and dump it into the outdoor composter.

Anyhow, the indoor canister has a filter at the top and because you're storing things like coffee grounds, egg shells and cast off from vegetables (like peels) into it, it attracts bugs. Little annoying fruit fly type bugs. I have been washing the canister and filters in the dishwasher, I've tried soaking them in bleach and still, those little annoying bugs seem to find it. Then I stumbled onto vinegar as a solution. So last week, I sprayed the filter with vinegar when I dumped and cleaned the canister and woo hoo, it worked! No more annoying little bugs.

My beautiful first-time balcony peppers and tomatoes.

The weather has been much too hot these last few weeks for them, but a teeny respite these last couple of days are having an effect. Yay!

Also, I noticed on the under leaf of my peppers, there were tiny white eggs(?) starting to infest so I dish soap sprayed the f out of them today.

My small ficus plant that I got in winter (and which caught a draft so I had to chop off most of it AND had a gnat problem) has been growing super fast this summer and has grown blossoms which is apparently very rare in houseplants. Of course they won't turn into figs as there aren't any of the needed type of wasps here, but I am tickled.





And a new addition as a present to myself after having to change a bike tire three times this week (I won't go into details but &*!# ).

That's funny, we don't seem to have them here on the mid north coast.
My dad has them in his 'lawn' out upper west NSW way (I use the term lawn loosely because it's just a few clumps of grass. You have to be pretty dedicated to have a green lawn out there!)
