Given the way Bernie behaved in 2016 after Hillary did get the nomination, it's a fair question to ask him. Why would they ask it of Kamala and Pete, though I am sure both would unequivocally say yes. Like Biden, I think Bernie also needs to move on - there are much better candidates that have not spent their entire lives as professional politicians. We need new ideas and new blood, and neither Biden nor Bernie is that. I freely admit I don't want either one of them.

You mean the way he blazed all those rallies for Hillary Clinton? In the final three months before Election Day 2016, Sanders held 39 rallies in 13 states on behalf of Clinton’s campaign, including 17 events in 11 states in the last week alone. (source). And that's more than Biden or Obama did for her.

Meanwhile, back on topic:

Buttigieg has risen in the polls with impressive strength given how little known he was at this time last year. But no matter how impressed I've been, I never really believed he could secure the nomination against the current competition. He's young, his mayoral experience doesn't (imo) scale to the presidency, and he's had no substantive involvement in minority issues at a national level. And yeah, there's that gay thing, too.

Within that context, the recent police shooting in South Bend hits Buttigieg in one of his weakest areas. It would be melodramatic to say that police officer destroyed Pete's chance to become president -- because as I said above, I don't think that was a realistic outcome anyway -- but the incident has definitely landed a body blow to his campaign outreach.

I'm glad he's running, however, and that's doing credibly well. Just the fact of him being out there is a tremendous boost in normalizing being gay in America. I never thought I'd see an openly gay person run for president and be taken seriously. I'm still in awe of that.

I don't think he is ready or can win this time (and not just due to persistent homophobia in some places - he's smart as hell, but needs national and foreign policy experience). But, I do think that America itself will be ready in another cycle or two (assuming we don't keep sliding backward thanks to a Trump re-elect).
