A fire chief in Montana was arrested Wednesday in connection with the Jan. 6 attack, accused of shooting chemical spray "directly into the face" of a Capitol Police officer and at the face of a Washington, D.C., police officer.

Frank Dahlquist — who was previously a firefighter in Washington state and advocated against vaccination mandates — faces numerous charges, including assault and obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder. He is the chief of West Valley Fire Rescue in Montana and was sworn into that role in November 2022.

Dahlquist was identified with the help of online sleuths — or "sedition hunters" — who have aided in the arrests of hundreds of Capitol rioters. They had dubbed him #GreyScaleSprayer, and they surfaced a high-quality photo of him from Jan. 6, 2021, that led to a facial recognition match to a 2022 news story featuring a video interview with Dahlquist.

But the real impact of the willingness of Trump’s supporters to use violence on his behalf can be seen inside his own Republican Party.
We may finally have the answer to why the GOP has bent to Trump’s wishes so willingly and why people of principle simply refuse to call out Trump’s lies about the 2020 election or any of his countless outrages: The party’s leaders are afraid. And not just for their political careers. They are afraid for their and their families’ personal safety. The possibility of violence threatens to tear apart a country whose people, surprisingly, agree about much more than we think.

In just the past few days, police have arrested a man who threatened to kill Rep. Eric Swalwell and his children. Swalwell, a Democrat, has been a fierce Trump critic. Bomb threats have shut down multiple state capitols. Police recently rushed to the home of Judge Tanya Chutkan, who presides over the subversion case against Trump, in a swatting attack. And after Trump lambasted Maine’s secretary of state and Colorado’s Supreme Court for declaring him unqualified to be on their ballot, his backers launched a barrage of death threats against them.

Jan. 6 defendants are complaining they're having trouble with air travel, according to CBS News' Scott MacFarlane.

In a post to X, MacFarlane shared a newly submitted court filing from Jan. 6 defendant James Rahm III, who asked for leniency in his sentencing.

"I also believe I am on a terrorist watchlist, because flying has become a huge problem," Rahm wrote in his filing.

"Airlines refuse to allow me to check in or board. After waiting about 1-2 hours standing at a desk, I am finally issued a boarding pass. Then TSA [Transportation Security Administration] takes me for a personal screening which is intense, uncomfortable, intrusive, and lengthy," Rahm's letter to the court read.

"TSA sets up an additional security check at the gate. They empty all my belongings, while the other passengers wait to board. This has happened the last 4 times I have flown. This treatment is extremely inconvenient and embarrassing for me and for my girlfriend, who suffers the same treatment, just for flying with me."

A conservative group that claimed to uncover a ballot stuffing scheme in Georgia has told a judge it has no evidence to back up its allegations.

A conservative group has told a Georgia judge that it doesn’t have evidence to support its claims of illegal ballot stuffing during the the 2020 general election and a runoff two months later.

Texas-based True the Vote filed complaints with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in 2021, including one in which it said it had obtained “a detailed account of coordinated efforts to collect and deposit ballots in drop boxes across metro Atlanta” during the November 2020 election and a January 2021 runoff.

A Fulton County Superior Court judge in Atlanta signed an order last year requiring True the Vote to provide evidence it had collected, including the names of people who were sources of information, to state elections officials who were frustrated by the group’s refusal to share evidence with investigators.

In their written response, attorneys for True the Vote said the group had no names or other documentary evidence to share.
