Coup in the USA?

Right now, I'm horribly disappointed in a friend for equating this with freedom of speech; in part because he is a fucking lawyer and ought to know better.

but trying to hold my cool because it feels like when any other time a friend is in a bad relationship and you just wait for them to reach that conclusion and be there for them.

I hope your friend isn't one of those people who thinks Twitter is a human right but healthcare isn't.

While I can understand your friend's concerns at one level, it seems to me an equivalent situation to a gun store refusing to sell a particular customer, or group of customers, guns and ammunition after a serious incident has given the store owner good reason to fear the customers can't be trusted to behave responsibly around guns.

The affects their second amendment rights, certainly, but most people would nevertheless applaud the gun shop owner in those circumstances.

I'd be genuinely interested in how your friend thinks Twitter users' freedom of speech should be upheld in general, though. Presumably through the courts, but of what points does your friend think a court should need to be satisfied before allowing Twitter to ban someone (bearing in mind how many people Twitter must ban in a year, and the different reasons why they ban them)?

Basically everything posted publicly on Parler has been downloaded, and often contains original metadata, but driver licenses, IPs and SSNs have likely not been downloaded. It has been downloaded by a great freedom loving historian team who downloads stuff from disappearing sites, but due to the massive amount of data (56690 GB) and slow Archive.org servers most content won't likely reach the public in an easily accessible way quickly. It should reach authorities quite quickly though, if they want it.

Which is perfectly legal I guess. It's just that Parler's developers' stupidity has made it extremely easy to download all that information. It's not 'hacking' really.

It is certainly true that the public posts are available as you can see on this page at archive.org with 56 terabytes of files.

If I recall correctly, Alabama was one of the states whose Attorney General signed onto the Texas lawsuit sent to the Supreme Court to overturn the Joe Biden's win.

At the very least, he is guilty of contributing to the atmosphere of believing the election was not free and fair.

I'm not sure - he's a Mormon from Utah - but he's also far better educated than I am. Normally he doesn't say anything political online, and this was a little vague, so I could be misunderstanding it, but it was blahblahblah but you're the good guys, so nothing to worry about.
