Newspapers' lawyers and editors get very unhappy indeed, at least in the UK, if the word "alleged" isn't attached to any report of a criminal matter in which the defendant has not yet been convicted.

Had The Guardian omitted the qualifier then, should he plead lawful self-defence or the defence of another and the jury acquit him, then the paper would potentially be facing a large bill for libel in the English courts if he wanted to make an issue of it.

So "alleged" until the suspect is safely convicted.
Yup - even if someone is caught red-handed, its supposed to be alleged until trial - of course, if he'd been a person of colour or a liberal, he'd never have made it -to- trial, but.... that's the US of A for you.

A US Capitol Police officer was indicted on obstruction charges in connection to the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol.

According to the indictment, Michael A. Riley told a contact online to remove posts showing the person was in the Capitol building that day.

Riley's arrest is notable among the more than 600 Capitol riot cases in that he becomes the first police officer on duty on Capitol Hill on January 6 charged with allegedly attempting to help a rioter.

More lying liars and the coups they attempt to claim are sorta-legal.

I can't read the WaPo thing because paywall, but I thought I'd post it in case anyone can.
It would probably depress me anyway, knowing what should be done about it probably won't.

WaPo articles can be read if you are using a pc with chrome and the ublock origin extension. When on the WaPo page, bring up the ublock origin options and click the symbol to the right of Aa. This will disable javascript. Then when the page reloads, most pictures won't show but the text of the article will.

Reader mode on mobile can often do it, too, until they catch wise, I guess. And I'm going to have to do that if I want to read it because Innula's Evernote links are coming up as all black page under the pictures, like it was censored. 👀
I'll have to wait until I feel up to reading something titled "Democracy Dies In Darkness", though.
I'm managing not to have a depressed day so far.

Those links do, I think, work if you scroll down far enough, but try this, for all three
