On a related note, I'm allergic to something in Purell. On a "hands break out in itchy hives" sort of level.
Hand soaps do that to me. Probably the scents. I haven't found a dishwashing soap that does that, and basic Dial antibacterial soap doesn't do it, so that's all I'm willing to use. Or plain water.

Coronavirus symptoms 'take five days to show'

It takes five days on average for people to start showing the symptoms of coronavirus, scientists have confirmed.
The Covid-19 disease, which can cause a fever, cough and breathing problems, is spreading around the world and has already affected more than 111,000 people.
The US team analysed known cases from China and other countries to understand more about the disease.
Most people who develop symptoms do so on or around day five.
Anyone who is symptom-free by day 12 is unlikely to get symptoms, but they may still be infectious carriers.

I'm glad I can come here and express my frustrations at what is going on. Having read that poor doctor's account of what is happening in Italy, it is estimated that the UK is a mere 12 days behind Italy in the spread of the virus. Which means that what they are experiencing now, is our future. So the idea that they have missed the chance to slow the development by cancelling sports gatherings etc is pretty stupid. I must admit that having read that Italian microbiologist's opinion that Italy was infected in January, I'd assumed we were more like a month behind.

I discovered I was allergic to Methylisothiazolinone about 7 years ago. They replaced parabens (about 3% allergic to it) with Methylisothiazolinone and its brother and sister chloroisothiazolinone and benzoisothiazolinone, which according to reports from the EU have caused an explosion of allergic dermatitis, otherwise known as eczema. It's a preservative. Each individual manufacturer will be testing whether their product is safe in isolation, but nobody is testing whether the onslaught we are subjected to is safe - the chemical is a neurotoxin. It's in spray cleaners, shampoos, conditioners, washing up liquid, washing liquids, clothing conditioners, lotions, paints, you name it - even mouthwashes. The EU has asked manufacturers to remove it from anything "leave on" like creams and moisturisers and sun creams. I'd be surprised if the Purell has any need for preservative, but if it is scented, the scent may have it in, and it's REALLY hard to find out from manufacturers if that's the case if you are sensitive.

It will sometimes be listed as Kanthan on labels. It will sometimes NOT be listed on labels but be included in the scent additive, and that is why some people of my age have suddenly developed eczema having never suffered from it before. I try really hard to keep it out of my home, and to avoid contact with it, but it is ubiquitous outside the home. I don't have such a bad allergy as some people - I generally get eczema on my foot and eyelid (yes! I know! weird...) but some nurses with the allergy have looked like they have gone ten rounds with Mike Tyson, with swollen faces etc, and have had to leave the profession, due to the extent of the contact with this chemical, which is added to floor cleaners and surface cleaners and a lot of other stuff.

I've used Simple (available in most supermarkets, I think, so I'd imagine all chemists, too) for several years. It was recommended to me by one of the Macmillan nurses when I was undergoing radiotherapy and my skin was starting to burn, and I've carried on with it ever since.

Dunno if it's available outside the UK.

ETA: Now I do!

[The British government is] looking at lifting the rules on the hours in which vans can make deliveries to homes. I don't know if this means supermarket deliveries at 2am. They are meeting with sports leaders but not cancelling sporting events at the moment.

Locally here, everything is as usual, except for some items running out in the shops. People are still shopping, meeting in coffee shops and holding events generally.
This more detailed account seems to suggest that they're relaxing the hours during which large trucks can deliver to supermarkets to restock them, as opposed to the hours during which supermarkets can make home deliveries to customers

Ob grumble at refilling some meds. The advice is to have extra. I called in a refill for something Friday. It is controlled so they are making me wait until Wednesday to get it. By then we could be confined to our homes as far as anyone knows.

One of my friends linked me to a research review on the use of Chinese Medicine on Pubmed in preventing Coronavirus. I am beseiged by people shouting at others across twitter and facebook not to worry, that it's not as bad as it looks, etc. I fear we are missing the window for preparing, by spending a lot of time reassuring each other that everything is ok. No health system is designed to cope with an overwhelming number of cases needing intensive care, whether it's private or public, but the more preparations that are made, the less bad it will be.

Somebody raised a while the question ago why Biden is not saying anything about Corona.

Biden did in fact outline a reaction plan end of January 2020:

While Trump just is still tweeting stuff like this:
