We had 3 regional heatwaves already this summer and it is only end of july. Normal is less than one per summer on average.
So no, nothing new to be seen on the climate front.
We are lucky with the wild fires so far. But man, do Spain and France have problems this year.

Yep, I have a lot of European friends, and all of them complained about the heat a lot. I of course felt bad for them, but am also worried the demand for AC will explode over there. ...this will of course explode European energy usage which of course will make the root cause even worse. HURRAY for a death spiral!

So yeah... maybe this kind of shit will bring more political attention to actually do something about climate change a good 60(?) years or so after it's too late to really turn the ship around.

Forget turning the ship around. It is not only a political problem.
People seem not to be able to grasp that it takes far more effort from each and everyone than sorting our garbage in a few nice piles. We keep driving, flying, cruising, buy stuff from the other side of the continent or even the world. At the Dutch airports and harbors alone arrive more than 1.1 billion webshop packages from outside the EU (mainly from China) every year.

Only chance humanity has, is trying to adapt to the changes IMHO and that will not be easy.

The Netherlands is a country that had to concentrate on how to keep the water out for centuries, both from the sea as from the rivers.
Now we have problems keeping our dykes safe and enough water available. They are mainly made of big chunks of granite or basalt covered with lyers of clay and other soils. Because it doesn't rain enough, combined with the for our country extensive heat and the fact the rivers have extreme low water levels, the clay gets too dry and starts to crack. We possibly need many fingers to put in the dykes when the rivers start to rise in the fall.
