British examples, but the satire works anywhere.
Yeah... It's funny, but it is infuriating how many people really believe those stupid counter arguments. American conservatives of course use a lot of the same ones parodied in that article. One other one I see a lot is just trying to label facts they don't like as "liberal" and then they think they are done.

A Reform UK councillor's bid to scrap his authority's climate emergency declaration has been delayed because the chamber was too hot to debate it.

Austen Moore is calling for the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk to end the climate emergency it declared in 2021 and to instead focus on "practical environment action".

The motion was due to be debated at a full council meeting, external at King's Lynn Town Hall on Thursday.

However, due to the Met Office issuing an amber extreme heat warning and the chamber having no air conditioning, it was deemed unfit.

Most of the time, if they've got nothing to counter your argument, they just accuse you of having TDS and slink away.

TDS and slink away.
Applies to fascists in general:

“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”
― Jean-Paul Sartre

I hadn't seen that quote before but it's a great way to phrase it. I've often thought about how it is SO MUCH easier to "win" a debate against an honest, modest, sane, intelligent person than a raving lunatic or a troll. All you have to do to win a debate with a good professor is just flood them with crazy claims and accusations and laugh at them as they fall into Brandolini's Law.

The Economist It’s too darn hot. Blame global dimming

Climate change is feeding on itself. The warming effects of greenhouse gases are driving processes that heat up the planet yet further. The one which is exciting—and alarming—scientists most is an unexpected reduction in an obscure but fundamental aspect of Earth: its albedo.

The albedo is the fraction of incoming sunlight that a surface or a planet reflects back whence it came. High albedos, whether they are created by white roofs or ice-covered seas, keep things cool; by contrast, when albedos are low, the incoming energy stays here on Earth, raising the planet’s surface temperatures. Robust satellite measurements of Earth’s albedo have now been taken for over two decades. They show it falling with surprising speed. The oceans, which are responsible for most of the sunshine’s absorption, have been accumulating much more heat as a result.

Earlier today I read about yet another feedback loop that isn't captured by the climate models. Roll this all up into Faster Than Expected TM.

Climate Scientists Aghast at How Bad Things Are Getting, and So Fast
The year 2023, in particular, was so far off the charts that researchers are still trying to make sense of what exactly happened. Even when adjusting for extra water vapor from volcanic eruptions, or natural climate variability, the month of September of that year was such a spike, it bored a hole through even the most pessimistic climate models.

“We could call them super-extremes or mega-extremes,” University of Exeter climate change and Earth system science chair Tim Lenton told Bloomberg. “We’re starting to see extremes on a spatial scale and a magnitude that’s really surprising.”

“Extreme events are so far outside anything we have expected,” Imperial College London climate scientist Friederike Otto added. “It’s not so important whether it’s what we expected as experts. It’s whether it’s what we expect as people on the ground.”

So... I read the Wall Street Journal as a way to spy on the enemy. Today they had an opinion piece attacking the National Academy of Sciences for being "political" and just trying to help people sue fossil fuel companies. As you'd expect, it was really dumb... and of course they didn't even discuss any of the actual facts behind the Academy's reports. It was just accusations and raw denial. The whole piece had a strong feel of "Let me block your science with my ideology." The opinion piece also had a few humorous bad faith readings of what the Academy actually said.

An organic farmer's dismay at the speed of climate change: 'I thought I would have time to prepare'
Pierre Cellier increasingly feels like he is playing the lottery. His set of numbers: 3 hectares of farmland, which he cultivates organically in Villefontaine, about 40 minutes from the center of Lyon. Like many French farmers, the 30-something has experienced particularly bad luck this year. He just endured his third heatwave in six weeks – three waves of intense heat, working from five in the morning until dusk, tending to suffering crops while avoiding the hottest hours. Three periods that took a toll "in the fields as well as mentally."

Massive chunk of sea ice has not refrozen in West Antarctica, satellite images show - ABC News
Every winter, Antarctic sea ice grows and decays, Peter Neff, a glaciologist at the University of Minnesota who specializes in ice core records, told ABC News. But since 2015, Antarctic sea ice has entered a "new, much reduced state," in which less and less is re-freezing due to rising air and sea temperatures, Neff said.

This year, the level of sea ice in West Antarctica is about 50% lower than average, Neff estimated.

I am used to hot days now. But the warm wind has really panicked me | Adrian Chiles | The Guardian
When the wind is warm, you know something is up. Naturally, I have been well aware of the awful reality of the climate crisis, but it has taken the warmth of the wind to really panic me. Not the endless 30C+ days, the desiccated garden, the tap slowing to a drip. No, it is the warm wind blowing on me. I can just about manage in punishing heat, even though it is particularly suffocating when the air is still. But I thought I had a tacit agreement with the British climate that at least when there was a breeze it would cool me down a bit. When a breeze warms me up, here in the UK anyway, it feels nothing less than un-British, and I wonder if we really are getting into the end of days.

We had 3 regional heatwaves already this summer and it is only end of july. Normal is less than one per summer on average.
So no, nothing new to be seen on the climate front. 🤷‍♂️
We are lucky with the wild fires so far. But man, do Spain and France have problems this year.
