'No evidence' found yet of ties between Charlie Kirk's shooting and left-wing groups, officials say

The federal investigation into the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has yet to find a link between the alleged shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, and left-wing groups on which President Donald Trump and his administration have pledged to crack down after the killing, three sources familiar with the probe told NBC News.

One person familiar with the federal investigation said that “thus far, there is no evidence connecting the suspect with any left-wing groups.”

“Every indication so far is that this was one guy who did one really bad thing because he found Kirk’s ideology personally offensive,” this person continued.

Oh, I don't know. Charlie Kirk's assassination shook a lot of conservatives to their core. As much as I abhor political violence, I'd say a few more of those would have conservatives begging for meaningful gun control.

It's certainly made many of them rethink their attitude to the First Amendment, at least when it comes to people saying nasty things about "Conservatives" (which they ain't). Not so sure many have changed their mind about the Second, though.

I can think of many individual republicans who've been more principled but I think you're strong statements are true for the Christian Nationalist movement as a whole. W. Bush for example fired back at Trump trying to trash the press but he's now seen as a traitor by them for not being seen as crazy enough.

Agreed, there have at times been principled statements made by a few individuals on the right. Some perhaps even without being opportunistically timed to pander to those vehemently opposed to laws that would curtail hate-speech.

I can't tell you how many times I heard the argument-stopping right-wing male mantra of "I may not agree with you, but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it!" (which always just seemed like condescending virtue signaling dog-whistle form of: "I'm better than you because I'M eager to take up arms For FREEDOM! And you're just a pansy 'Muh Feelings!' liberal who couldn't fight a flea").


ANYWAY.

I just wanted to throw a thought out there about Tyler Robinson. Nobody has said he wasn't on good terms with his strongly republican family, but they have said he was 'quiet' about his political views. Also, seemingly credible, was that his roommate, and possibly non-platonic partner, is supposedly trans.

More people should be pointing out that one doesn't have to be liberal/progressive/left to have an LGBTQ+ partner. Grindr's activity skyrockets around republican national conventions. MANY conservative men do not have a problem with gay and trans partners. What they oppose is gay/trans men&women living openly and honestly because without the cloak of shame and secrecy, their extra-marital affairs become harder to keep hidden.

A disturbing number of openly or near openly gay -white- men are so fed up with the left's assault on masculinity that some have decided they're better off on the right. They'd rather put up with being a few rungs down the societal totem pole rather than being treated like 'the enemy'.

tl;dr: Whether the assassin is gay, or involved with a trans partner is absolutely not a clear indication of his political ideology.
