I'm not so sure -- I think today's shameful events pretty much mark the split between the Republican Party and the Party of Donald J Trump, which can't be good for either, at least not until the Trump Party is no more, and its supporters driven from public life, and I think the chances of Trump being prosecuted have shot up with the nomination of Merrick Garland as Biden's Attorney General.

Trump's main superpower before all this was to terrify Republican legislators by threatening to get them primaried. That's gone now -- after today's scenes, Republicans are now either for Trump or against him and for the democratic process and the rule of law, and the threat of mean tweets doesn't now count for much, I would have thought.

I can understand being worried about political precedent where we always go after political opponents... but it's even worse to set the precedent that the President is above the law. Trump has taken a giant shit over the law and constitution. We can't let this slide.
