Live: President Biden is campaigning in North Carolina and he is barnstorming like a champion. This is the Biden that should have showed up last night. Honestly, watching him now, I'm fully onboard with him as the presidential candidate. He's in top form and this is good stuff.

Last night stung, but damn. Go Joe!
Totally, it's like night and day. He looks/sounds/acts most like SOTU today, compared to lackluster, feeble, anemic last night. Makes me weep that we didn't see this Joe during debate, but like the old saying goes, doesn't help to cry over spilled milk. Last night's wan muted performance cannot be unseen or taken back, but perhaps going forward damages can be mitigated toward a strong finish.
My huge concern at this point: what is the viewer ratio from last night's debate versus today's Biden rally? Have undecided voters already tuned him out and made up minds? 😟

Trump didn't win over any undecided voters last night either. They probably tuned out completely after becoming nauseous once he opened his mouth. Hopefully they will tune back in before November. I also wish the media would explain that your vote is for so much more than just Biden to run this Country. He has an entire cabinet full of people who are totally capable and helping him to run America right now. America is not the rat's nest or hell-hole Trump would have you believe it is.

Biden is human. He had a shit night. We all have. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

What surprises me is that far too many people think the word "progressive" is some kind of slur.
It's not a slur to me, it's just a description. "liberal" seems to more often be used as a slur.... I'd love to see more progressive ideas actually implemented but we need to win elections first. ...I'm just less than optimistic right now.

Either way America is fucked. And shame on both parties that these old, white men who should be in retirement due to old age are the best they can come up with.

FDR's election was a very different time and was of course before the McCarthy era propaganda. Democrats were more left before the red scare. It's too bad the electorate moved so far.
FDR was similar to Biden in that both of them preferred to communicate with voters on a personal level. I would not be so quick to dismiss the analogy.

People like progressive ideas, just not progressive politicians.
You're correct. Look at AOC. She's intelligent, well spoken and outspoken but the media constantly casts her in a suspicious, negative light simply because she's a strong, outspoken woman.

I'm not really disagreeing with your core point, just saying the right wing propaganda machine is a hell of a beast to overcome.
And that, in a nutshell is the root of most of our modern social problems. I used to think it was just stupidity, but I've moved over to the "victims of propaganda" view as well.

I agree Biden is finished. I'm not sure there are any options without him stepping down NOW (EDIT: as a candidate) and even then the party has to pivot rapidly behind someone else. It's a long shot at this point. I think my personal choice is Newsom. I think he's step in well if the party leadership asked him to, but it would require Biden to step down; which he likely will refuse to do.
I really can't agree with this. Despite having a bad debate due to being under the weather and not being able to control his stutter, he is still the best man for the job. What you are suggesting is akin to replacing a veteran pilot with someone fresh out of flight school while in mid-air. Replacing Biden with anyone else at this point of time will all but assure a Trump win.

My statement was reactionary, as was a lot of what was said immediately after the debate... I'm rallying my emotions a bit and hopeful he recovers his later performances like Obama did when he botched the first debate with Romney.

Yes, right wing media jumped to demonize her because she was recognized early as a potential, long term threat. If right wing propaganda is good at anything, it's demonizing liberal women.

How significant are these debates? How many people actually watch them?

Going through an election here in the UK Im struck by reporting about just how little the average brit is even exposed to the news and just how few pay any attention to our version of these debates. And surely, given its a two party system over there, the vote AGAINST trump is probably more important than the vote FOR biden?

Yes, but in a very close race, every detail matters. Most people polled said the debate won't change their minds, but a few percent is enough to matter.

Those of us who have watched family members mentally deteriorate with age have seen what we saw in last night's debate. Car keys would be taken away and we would never let that man cook on a stove unsupervised or live alone. I'm not being dramatic.

It's not about the next election, it's about us pretending that Joe Biden is running our country.

We have a President who needs 24/7 supervision so he doesn't wake up in the middle of the night and hurt himself or someone else.

He, of course, has that. So where does that leave everyone else?
