It won't be the first time. It's strange to think of today but the Republican party actually originated in a splinter group from the Democrats and it was in many ways the most progressive of the two.

Maybe we should attempt to make a rule that states is you have refused to accept your last election loss and have attempted to commit a coup (whether you succeeded or not) you should not get to run again. Just saying'. We could also base it upon breaking the oath of office. He did that a truckload of times.

I've wondered why anyone is taking a 2024 run seriously and whether they're just being polite by not pointing out that he's unlikely to be capable of running by 2024, assuming he's even still alive by then. Maybe they think that age is a minefield to discuss because of Biden's age. But Trump is obviously in much worse health, regardless of age comparisons. He can barely walk or stand now without careful staging and managing. He'll be drooling in a wheelchair before too long.

They're humouring him.

Apart from whatever other grifts and survival plans his courtiers are pursuing, whether in hope of a pardon or not, they're trying to keep him from going completely to pieces before he's finally out of office, and then they want part of the pie as they join in the great MAGA2024! grift.

There's huge amounts of money to be made, which Trump knows as much as does anyone else, so of course they're all happy to maintain the fiction he'll be able to take a welcome break in Mar-a-Lago for the next four years, before his triumphant return.

He enjoys being told it, and it keeps his mind off his legal and financial problems as well as the humiliation of losing, and it's bringing in vast amounts of cash from the faithful, so they're going for it for as long as it works.

Once it stops working, then it stops, but until then they're along for the ride -- and it's a ride from which I think a lot of them would by now find it difficult to dismount anyway, even if they're not family.
