I fear he will call in the military to keep himself in office. Except so far he treats the military with contempt. I don’t know if they mind though.
I can't speak for active duty military, but I'm in contact with a number of fellow veterans, and the general feeling among that group is that Trump is a god.

Yeah, I suspected: they don’t mind.

As a side note, Elizabeth Warren answered Rachel Maddow's question about if she'd accept the VP slot with a very simple "Yes".
Not gonna happen. To split the progressive vote, they loved her. But they're done with her now. No, they never wanted her to become president, and Biden's VP is going to become president.

Someone remembers how VPs are chosen, and why Biden in particular was chosen. LOL.

I think you are mistaken (maybe not about her getting it - I don't have a crystal ball for that). If I had to guess, a majority of those who call themselves moderate are hoping for the party to tilt more and more progressive - they were just taking a more pragmatic view about what they think it will take to get there. The goals are mostly the same. Its only the means of getting there that differ. That said, my dream VP right now is Katie Porter - with a stainless steel clipboard and all the resources she could possibly want.

I wanna live in that universe, too.

Or are you talking about voters? Yes, the voters want that. But they've fallen for the malarkey that is "incrementalism." They don't understand mathematical slope. Properly named, what they've voted for is decrementalism. They will never, ever get what they want if they keep electing the candidate the media tells them to elect.

Much as I admire Elizabeth Warren, there must be some Democratic women under the age of 70 who are worthy of consideration for the VP slot, surely?
This is something I have been thinking about. Unfortunately, it is a complicated set of options. Traditionally, the office of Vice-President tends to be a career ending position. If former VP Biden is elected then that will be an exception, but he has had an extremely long and varied arc in the political life of the US. The VP tends to be the person who does a lot of the legislative dirty work of the President, and their personal views tend to get subsumed by the needs of the President. In many ways it is a bad career step and requires a technocrat rather than a charismatic campaigner. In the end the choice of the VP tends to give a small positive impact when the candidate is first announced, but in the end either do not matter or can drag down a campaign by their missteps. (And Biden is already prone to gaffs and silly mistakes.)

So far all the good choices like Sen. Harris or Warren have the potential to make a far greater impact in their current offices. This year the political conventions will be more subdued than in the past due to that germie thingie, and the press will not have much to focus on other than things like the VP pick. So this thing will likely be dragged out and amplified more than ever. In the end it will likely be a let down due to all the hype regardless of who accepts the nomination. Additionally, give the focus in the US on competent administration it is likely that Biden will go for a current or former state Governor. If so that will be an interesting ethics question as to whether or not it is appropriate for someone in that position to leave her post to campaign in the given context.

It's great he is seeing an increase. I'm not sure a 60% favorability among democrats is much to toot your horn about when no one else is running though.
First, the overall Dem favorable rating is 78% vs 18% unfavorable. The tweet mentions the increase in Dems ages 18-29.

Second:
And as Democrats look to rally behind their presumptive nominee, the latest Morning Consult polling also found the former VP widening his lead against Trump: Forty-seven percent of registered voters overall said they’d back Biden if the presidential election were held today, compared to 42 percent who said they’d vote for the Republican incumbent. That 5-point edge for Biden is up 2 points from the previous week’s margin.

I've had some pretty ferocious debates with other Dems on social media, who dislike Biden and claim he'd just be "more of the same as Trump". :censored:

I keep making the same point over and over: NOTHING and NOBODY can ever be "another Trump". He is the most corrupt, clueless, un-empathetic President in our history. My fondest dream is for the Republicans to collect the karma they're due this November. And the new administration hopefully will set about undoing all the bullshit Trump did, just like he tried to undo Obama. Fair's fair. The problem is that McConnell has stacked the Federal court system which will back things up for decades, now..

After '16, I've learned not to put much stock into polls but I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing so far. Trump is NOT a shoo-in for reelection. Thank the spirts. And I'm reading that he is in a sour mood, which make me grin like the proverbial cat.
