Morse code turns out to be more interesting than I thought in the way it swaps out words like and for es and stuff like that.

I also found a reference mentioning that hihihihi is a way that you could transcribe giggling in German. I didn't know that.

I guess today I failed at English. It happens.

When I was a teenager I learned Morse code so I could get an amateur radio license. Your basic switch was just that, a button you press and release. The considerably fancier version is called an iambic paddle. It is connected to electronics where if you push to one side you get a series of dots and to the other a series of dashes. The one my Dad got me was from Vibroplex. They go to great care to make sure the switches are perfectly balanced and such for fast hand movement. They are still around and have been since 1905! Wow, they sure are expensive nowadays though. $189 for what basically is a two position switch. Electronics extra from somewhere else. Interesting but I won't be buying that.

These fourms feel extremely welcoming toward new members.

The ppl drove me off.The official SL fourms are full of stupid ppl that turn every disscussion into a volitle arguement. There appear to be political threads here about wars and elections that are less toxic then the average thread on the offical SL fourms. And no, I'm not jumping into any of that stuff. I'm not interested in arguing or debating anything here. I'd rather fit in.

Oddly, I can't recall a single instance of anybody describing bigfoot as looking a lot like a wookie in over a 1000 episodes.

I find this extremely strange now that I think about it . . .

Because if somebody freaked out in the woods, I would be like 'Well, did it look like a bear or did it look like Chewbacca.'

Neither do I, although I'd prefer to get along with ppl. The worst of the ppl in the official SL forums aren't interested in that, though. They are snarky and snide with the intend of provoking negative reactions that they can feed off of in a vampiristic fashion. This is really the only way some of them are able to convince other ppl to acknowledge that they exist. The way the offical SL fourms are moderated makes it even worse, because it allows the most toxic users to constantly attempt to exploit the rules to try to trip each other up and then report on each other in the style of soviet-era secret police. Here, it appears perfectly fine to tell somebody to just go fuck themselves should somebody engage in that sort of stick-poking-in the-eye-behavior, which fosters a much healthier and respectful environment in my opinion, as you must be polite toward others, exspecially as an unestablished new person, or risk being brutally punished by the rest of the community. Also, the level of stupid looks to be extremely low here. Everybody seems nice, freindly, and intelligent. The presence of threads concerning political topics means that in theory nobody who comes here with the eplict intend to argue and does so in an idiotic way would even need to bother wasting their time trying to provoke others in topics directly realted to SL or any other virtual world and could instead pretty much force-feed themselves into political areguments that would instantly chew them up like some kind of fast-acting metaphorical meatgrinder.

Been here a long while - since it was SLU though not from the beginning of that one.

I've found that the majority of what people complain about concerning the official forum can be put down to a lack of self control or lack of an ability (or desire) to make use of the tools at their disposal.

If what the others are doing affects you ... My statement from my prior post stands: Fora in general really aren't for you.

Don't much like the moderation over there but it does not take much to avoid being on the receiving end of such.

I guess so. I chalk it up to a lesson learned. I joined it around the time PBR came out and argued that PBR was crap. Like I said, lesson learned. Please don't set me on fire. * /me tries to give PBR an awkward side hug but it doesn't seem to trust me and appears to not want to hug me back * Really, I learned that argueing about the techincal elements of SL is a completely pointless waste of time and is a great way to earn the eternal scorn and hatred of a large enough group of ppl to make for a completely miseribale experience. I'd much rather work on solving little problems here and there that improve things and engaging and light and slightly dumb banter.
