There's something very peculiar about the thermodynamics of these CO2 sequestration schemes, not merely the one hinted at here. CO2 is at the bottom of a free energy curve: it is the product of a combustion reaction with carbon compounds which releases energy. It requires energy to get CO2 to react with other things, to go backwards through one of its formation reactions. For instance, sunlight is a convenient source of energy to sequester CO2. There's no mention of the chemical reactions involved, nor of the total energy balance by which the environment would be restored. We are always left with one of Kipling's Friends: "How?"
