My two cents about Joe: I mentioned several months ago in this forum that he is a good man and was ridiculed. But being a good man to me has to do with motivation. Joe is easy to criticize, for his contributions to bad legislation, his gaffes, his goofiness. He is no Obama — but who is? (And Obama isn’t perfect. He wasn’t born woke. He evolved.)
What matters most to me — and I think to most voters — is not perfect unerring judgment but motivation: Joe makes bad decisions sometimes, as do we all, but not out of greed or malice. His motivations are overwhelmingly good. And what this country needs above all is a good man, a man with a good heart, humble enough to lead a team of rivals. It is To Americans’ credit we have had the good sense to recognize that Joe Biden is that man.
I know that you mean well and have a soft heart.
But I do not understand how you do not connect that his voting choices - many of them horrible with terrible consequences - are more reflective of his motivations than his rhetoric. Words are wind, it's actions that matter. His motivations are not "overwhelmingly good" when measured by policy. I don't give a rat's behind about his gaffes, real gaffes and not simply saying the quiet parts out loud and getting caught.
When he refuses to extend Medicare for All to everyone during a pandemic, where is the wisdom in that? What "overwhelmingly good" motivation is that? COBRA is useless if you don't have a job. Asking people without a job to buy health insurance just to stay insured? Where is the good motivation in that?
When he supports a coup of a foreign country, where is the motivation in that? If he can't respect democracy abroad, why should we expect him to to not use some of those terrible powers that have been creeping up at home? Trump didn't get these terrible powers by himself. It was enabled by Democrats, too.
I see him moving on some issues, and I'll give credit where credit is due. The climate plan, though not perfect, reflects something useful. HOWEVER, I question his commitment to his plans. When you consider the hundreds of millions of dollars flowing his way now, who do you think he's going to listen to? US? That's not a good motivation. He's going to listen to the people sending him money, like he has his entire career. I just see band-aids over bullet holes when it comes to the economy, and that is the worst thing he can do because that will bring about a worse version of Trump.
