Impact still grates on me, unless someone is talking about a physical object. The agitprop guy is my only entry.

Mindset. Because it embodies everything wrong with todays' economy: it's not the society, which is doing wrong. Nor your family. Nor... whatever. Nope, it's putting the blame on you, because you are not working hard enough to be the best you can be.

Housing prices, eggs and other food is/are way too high? It's not a problem of society, but instead your own, because you are not working hard enough to make more money!

You didn't get that promotion again you wanted since ages? Must be your mindset, because you were simply not good enough to get promoted!

You are enjoying some good fun in your spare time! Shame on you and your bad mindset, instead just having fun you should build your body, learn Mandarin or do something more productive!

And so on...

"correction" I wonder when the commentators are going to stop saying "correction" and admit that the markets will continue a generally downward trend as long as Trump is in office or at least until the Party fully takes over market manipulation management.

"Iconic"

I seem to hear it a dozen times a day, or nearly so. Certain people I know or listen to use it constantly, often where its use is barely helpful, adjectively speaking. I've reached a point when just as I'm about to hear someone say it, I grumble "iconic" to myself as they're using it. It's making me nearly psychic in my predictive powers about its use, and nobody needs that (me being psychic, that is).

The word has many synonyms. Pick up a thesaurus (that iconic reference source...) and TRY USING THEM.

Hmmmm... Are you, therefore, an iconoclast?

If they're going to abuse English, can't they at least pick up some of the older Anglo-Saxon, or some ancient Greek or Roman import? They at least have some romance and providence around them, and "sound" better.

Come on! The Tudor period and Shakespearean English are practically begging to be bought back to life.

Administrate, what's wrong with Administer? Administrate is a back formation from Administration which was a separate word that came from Latin.
