I know there are some physicists who want to get rid of "big bang".

I like that physics uses simple terminology compared to many sciences. A lot of scientific nomenclature is just the descriptive name a 10 year old would come up with but translated into latin or greek to sound sophisticated....

Amazing, super, etc. especially when utilized used for something not so amazing.

Also, and I might have posted it before, but I’m posting it again, Gamechanger! Ugh
I hate the word "perfect" because it's often misused to refer to things that are just pretty damn good, even when there is obvious room for improvement. "Perfect" should mean no obvious flaws.

it's easy to write software with no obvious flaws. The trick is writing software with obviously no flaws. Now where did I read that?

“There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult.”

(What a) pussy
(Putin’s) bitch
Karen (said to a guy who’s complaining) I even saw “the Gulf of Karen”

but of course, big balls when someone is courageous.

I get the sentiment and all that, or how these words/expressions can be used ironically, and I would never comment on the words chosen in a Bluesky post or whatever instead of the actual meaning trying to be conveyed, but it bugs me every time.

Anyway, there are way more important things going on, but I had to write this somewhere to make myself feel better, so why not in an old thread.

AGREED! Things like gendered slurs and body shaming are inherently bad. They aren't more acceptable when directed at bad people. ...because you're also insulting innocent people! There are hundreds of valid ways to attack bad people without making fun of immutable traits....

"Reach out." As in, "I'll reach out to our IT team."

Like this?

It's even more annoying when it is a euphemism for "nothing happened." "Our manager reached out to the plutonium department .........."

I'm no expert but it seems like "talking" or even "messaging" would do more good than "reaching." I may have suggested that to more than one CS rep.
