They are building new RVs based on a Ford Transit chassis

I have vague ideas to buy a RV when I'm officially free to travel (I now have 20 vacation days a year where I can stay outside the country, because I'm officially unemployed until my pension). I have plans to travel all over Europe for a year or so.
But because I don't want to sell my apartment, I will have to look for a cheaper one as that new Ford.
If the plans still stand by then. Still 3-4 years to go

So.... when the spouse retires, or if we have a windfall, we've been talking about gettng an rv for cons, because would give us a longer range than we have now.

And well, since his work won't pay for travel to Atlanta anymore, because the people who knew his situation from the beginning are all gone, and the bean counters don't get why there was this arrangement in the first place, it would make things a bit cheaper.

I think I'll keep any eye on this, it looks really sweet.

My brother is presently converting a van (adding solar panels, making a living space inside, etc.) Less space than an rv, but better ($) when travelling far. I would so love to do the same.

If I decide I want to leave my house and the country, I can possibly live in Canada. That is a large place so where? Maybe around Brantford, Ontario. It isn't too far from my old home, isn't atrociously cold, is close enough to Toronto I could drive there for special events, and has much lower property values than right around Toronto.

Careful when you're RV'ing, you'll be targeted by insurance fraudsters who will swerve in front of you and force you to brake, figuring if you have an RV you have disposable money and good insurance. And if some (fairly) innocent person is tailgating you at the same time, well ...

Might want to invest in some good cameras and warning signs, maybe?

I want to move to the middle of nowhere. Maybe Wyoming or South Dakota, an hour from an urban center Rapid City... close enough to see a concert now and then, and get to a decent hospital if I have a medical emergency, but far enough away that I don't have to deal with things like Sturgis.

Oregon has some quite remote areas. For instance, the place where Idaho, Oregon and Nevada meet. You will have to walk the last couple of miles. A 4 wheel drive is likely necessary. There are the problems that your other conditions aren't satisfied and there is probably no land for sale there. These directions are oversimplified from what I've read.

From Winnemucca, drive 40 miles north to Paradise Valley. Continue northeast on a dirt road for about 49 miles to a signed junction. At the junction, head east for about 16 miles to the Nevada-Oregon fence and turn right, following along the Oregon side, until you hit the tri-state monument.

I LOVE the vintage Airstreams - if we were ever to get an RV it would be a beat up Airstream.

I’ve always been attracted to the idea of a nomadic way of life, and I like (am used to?) small apartments as there is less accumulation and cleaning but, going in the opposite direction, I wouldn’t mind living in an enormous loft.

Lots of light, so much space there’s an echo, filled with plants and critters.

Surrounded with trees, next to water... I mean we’re fantasizing, right?

Nice, but I think you need to find yourself a millionaire sponsor or become one yourself only to heat that building during the winter/evenings.

Sure but it’s fantasy.

In Montreal, it would certainly be cold in winter, but different places, different weather.

I used to live in a loft (in an old building that has been demolished now) and it was heated with water pipes. The cold wasn’t what ever bothered me, but the thing I didn’t realize when I moved in was that those wonderful giant windows full of light (that helped heat during winter) were scorching during summer. Made to measure giant drapes cost a lot.

We have a guy at work who lives in a hanger like that. His actual airplane has been under construction as long as I've known him, but I dig his aspiration.

For Atlanta, at least, once the pandemic is over you can stay at my place. I have a couch with a fold out queen bed, and also a futon. Between conventions and the SCA I'm no stranger to costumes.

In my SCA medieval event days I had a van that looked exactly like the one below. Back bench folded down to a bed. For small weekend events I could just stay in it. For the mega two week events I would hook up the 16 foot utility trailer, bring a few friends, and fill up all the available space with gear because I was usually the setup guy for a group camp of up to 200 people.
