For one thing, I could not have learned Blender and much more without the mesh forum, from people like ChinRey. Also, as a merchant and creator who earns her living in SL, being able to get info directly from and to provide feedback to Lindens is essential. Like today, changes in marketplace were announced, and a bug was immediately reported, both in the forum.

.Plus there are a lot of great people, many of whom post here. Of course there is also a lot of ridiculous drama, some from people banned from here, some from snowflakes.

It's taken me a while to work out which pamela you are but now I know I have to ask...

The last time I was over in the official forums (a good few years ago now) it was to check out another thread dissing slu and I seem to remember you being quite rude about the people here.. I also remember something about you hated coming over here because it was supposedly so poisonous.

a change of format doesn't get rid of everything you hated about slu. Ever since xstreet a lot of your postings appear to be more about keeping your biz in front of people but surely it must be horrible to have to dirty yourself by being here?

If I have stated something I dont like about SLU without also mentioning what I do like (as I have above for the LL Forums), post the links, and I will apologize for giving the wrong impression, because I have always found both positive and negative people in this and every forum. (Note how I passed up an opportunity to rage-post in the recent thread Cris quoted from.) And I have even been a SLU Supporter.

As for my business: in SL: I dont shop. I dont change clothes. I dont decorate. I dont go clubbing. I dont RP. I dont play games. I just create / run a business. It is my hobby and my career. I sometimes talk about it, like anyone else who talks about their interests and occupation. On top of that, I have advertised my business on SLU and here. If all that inappropriately “keeps my business in front of people”, block me and problem solved.

I don't think it's productive or fair to drag this forward. There were some periods of time at SLU where things did get toxic over certain topics and there were a lot of very strong personalities that sometimes clashed. Pamela's postings here have nothing to do with her business, other than in the area specifically for listing her items, which she paid for access to. No, you don't completely erase your history with someone, but it seems unfair to come at her like this.

There are times and things I don’t like about SLU and VVO as well. When I’m particularly feeling blegh about them, or talking about those times, things or members, I rarely remember to pepper in comments about the things I like.

No forum will be all great all the time, and sometimes we vent about that, either in SLU itself or with others. After the vent all we can do is ignore the people or topics that are particularly bothersome to us, or take breaks.

I don’t think there is anyone who hasn’t gone through periods of finding a forum or community unenjoyable from time to time, but the parts we do like bring us back.

The tone or vibe of a forum changes regularly too, as does our own headspace and mood. We have to account for ups and downs.

Literally any community will become a little bit of an echo chamber. I honestly don't think SLU/VV is a whole lot worse than others.

This community has a very clear left wing slant, but it's not like more right wing message boards are always just so much more welcoming of other points of view. Nowhere scares me more than /r/the_donald in that respect.

That comes back to the issue of there only being a handful of people who tend to start threads versus those who reply to them. If there are political topics of interest to you from your own region, start threads about them. I'd love to know more about political issues outside the US from the perspective of people here.
