Is it really so necessary to make vegan fakes of everything when real vegan cooking is perfectly fine?
I wish more vegans thought like that.

I'm not vegan, but I have had some vegan things and vegan dishes when they're not trying to be a substitute for a non-vegan dish can be pretty darn good.

Maybe it's a psychological thing; maybe it's just too hard to judge a food on its own merits when it goes to such lengths to remind you that it's an imitation of something else, especially something else you like in its original form, because you can't help but compare. I mean and imitation cheese in particular has had a rep for being awful long before vegans were a thing, so there's already baggage there.

Plus come on, nutcheese just sounds so wrong. Heh.

The one exception to this rule though is Impossible burgers. Seriously, buy a pack of those and eat them. They are GOOD, and they taste and just feel in your mouth uncannily close to real burgers for a non-meat product. But I don't know if Impossible burgers are vegan or merely vegetarian though.

Sounds good. I don’t know either, but the veg burger at Burgerville was AMAZING if you ever go to the PNW you must try it, with the marionberry shake if it’s in season, and fries with garlic aioli.

I've been trying to figure that out for a while. I mean, vegans don't eat meat, and most don't eat anything sourced from an animal. So, why would they want to eat anything that looks and tastes (sort of) like meat or cheese?

In my Navy days, I had some guy explain "fromunda cheese" to me. I really wished he hadn't.
(tip: Don't Google it unless you have a strong stomach)

"Nutcheese" makes me think of that.

If you want it to look like a burger and taste like a burger: Buy a god damn burger!
Vegan food with meat flavor......... ehm??????
Here in the Netherlands a leading deep fry snack producer launched vegan bitterballen (it is a Dutch snack google translate has no translation).
Their selling point: You can't taste the difference......... /me rolls eyes.

Bitterballen.

I’m not even vegan and I really like good vegan cooking.

I suppose a certain lack of adventurousness is involved.

There is nothing wrong with a good vegan meal. But I'm not trying to make my steak look like a mixed salad, when I eat one.

They look pretty much like breaded, deep-fried meatballs. I'd eat that.

Not sure if somebody's already mentioned this on the thread. I hear facon is a thing now. It's like bacon, but just not bacon. As with all new products, it's been called "the real deal," I hear. Anybody tasted facon? I, for one, really like bacon. Bacon and beer, to be precise.
