I just realized picking PSA 182 as an example might have seemed rather random.
I was working in San Diego at the time and saw the smoke from the wreck through my window. In fact, I was finishing a newscast when the crash happened. Finished the 'cast, looked out the window and thought, "Damn, that's a big fire." Had I finished a minute or two earlier, I might have watched it. Obviously, it was an event we reported on in depth for days. (It was also only a mile or two from my apartment. Gulp.)
Another radio friend at a different station was idly looking out his window a few minutes before and saw the whole thing happen. He never got on a plane again, so far as I know.
