Dozens of students, parents, and members of the LGBTQ community appeared at a Florida school board meeting Tuesday to once more demand the resignation of its most controversial member: Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler.

For close to three hours, the public comment period of the Sarasota County School Board meeting focused on Ziegler and her refusal to step down amid the hypocrisy exposed by her and her husband’s three-way sex scandal.
Several students spoke of the way her anti-LGBTQ rhetoric has made an impact on them and others in the district, with one teenager at the podium saying it was their “lifeline” to pretend to be straight, so they wouldn’t face harassment and hate speech.

Another 12-year-old student, who identified as queer and binary, said they were terrified the board, under Ziegler, would continue to pass policies making it harder for them to learn “because of who I am.”
Live by the sword, fuck and die by the sword.

They'll never let go until we pry it from their cold, dead hands. And maybe not even then.

An Arizona lawmaker who signed on to be a “fake elector” for Donald Trump after the former president lost his bid for a second term has introduced a bill that would allow members of the statehouse to overturn future election results that they don’t like.

The bill, formally known as Senate Concurrent Resolution 1014 and sponsored by state Sen. Anthony Kern, seeks to bypass the popular vote altogether.
"It is the responsibility of the Arizona Secretary of State to certify elections, including elections for President of the United States, but the sole authority to appoint presidential electors is granted to the Legislature,” the four-line bill reads. Therefore, it concludes, “[T]he Legislature, and no other official, shall appoint presidential electors in accordance with the United States Constitution.”

Giving the legislature absolute power to control Arizona’s electoral college votes, regardless of who won the popular vote, would disenfranchise millions of Arizonans.

Aha, Taylor Swift is a WITCH! They just keep providing more reasons to like her.

Wasn't there a Super Bowl just a couple of years ago where after it happened Republicans were going on and on about how that year's halftime show was a Satanic ceremony or something disguised as an innocuous concert? I forget who the performer was.

They did it last year with Rihanna. They did it the year before with Snoop Dogg. It's become an annual call-out for them.

Ever since James Watt called the Beach Boys unpatriotic back in the early 80's.

While I'm not sure that Taylor Swift's endorsement is worth a great deal, I think that this kind of conspiracy theory, while eminently monetizable if you're a right-wing influencer in pursuit of views and clicks, probably does a lot to convince undecided voters that Trump supporters are crackpots.

Welcome back, 1950s!

Florida schoolkids may have to study ‘threat of communism in the US’
Kindergartners in Florida might soon be compelled to balance learning their ABCs with lectures on the history of communism, if a Republican proposal moving through the state’s legislature becomes law.

House bill 1349 would also create a “history of communism taskforce”, hand-picked by the Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, to recommend how the subject is presented in classrooms from elementary to high school starting in 2026.

Two years ago, DeSantis, who has railed against what he sees as indoctrination of students by “liberal elites”, signed into law a bill designating an annual “victims of communism” day, and making at least 45 minutes of instruction on the subject compulsory as a graduation requirement for high schoolers.
Gotta edumacate 'em while their real young.

Uh boy.

Florida school requires parental consent for pupils to listen to Black author’s book
A Florida school has received backlash after it required parents to provide written consent allowing their children to engage with a Black author’s book. The permission form detailed an activity in which “students will participate and listen to a book written by an African American”.

Chuck Walter, a parent at Coral Way K-8 in Miami, posted a photo of the slip on X, writing: “I had to give permission for this or else my child would not participate???” He tagged the Miami-Dade county public schools superintendent, Jose L Dotres.
The permission slips indicate how some Florida schools are trying to comply with the state’s “Parental Rights in Education” law, more commonly known as the “don’t say gay” law, and the “Stop Woke Act”, both signed by the governor, Ron DeSantis, in 2022. The former prohibits discussions of sexuality and gender in classrooms, while the latter regulates how race and race issues can be taught in schools. Critics have suggested that Florida lawmakers are aiming for erasure or to teach a false history to the state’s children.
