Teachers would be forced to “out” non-straight students to their parents under proposed legislation that seeks to stifle discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation in Florida’s schools.

An amendment to the controversial Parental Rights in Education bill, nicknamed the Don’t Say Gay bill by critics for its anti-LGBT agenda, would give schools a deadline of six weeks to inform on students who confide their sexual orientation to a staff member.

The draft legislation was proposed by Florida Republicans and is supported by Ron DeSantis, the governor, who has been accused of trying to create solutions for non-existent problems to pander to right-wing voters.

I think he's proven he'd do ANYTHING to appease the far right base to try to clench the Presidential nomination. Trump was certainly no friend to LGBT+ people but this asshole is just overtly hostile to almost everyone who isn't a straight white man.

I'm thinking some families could raise a big stink about this, if it was implemented, in one of two ways:

* A clearly hetero high-school boy with a girlfriend confides to a teacher he's gay (when he's not actually). When the teacher reports it to the parents, they act all shocked and raise a big stink about "false accusations" and go on all the media and social networks over it. This would make teachers and administrators gun-shy about reporting anyone.

* A child with same-sex parents tells the teacher they are hetero. When nothing happens from the teachers, the parents can sue the school for sex discrimination, if they have also been reporting on the other kinds of students.

(please poke holes in my quarter-baked ideas).

So despite all of their talk about Freedom and Private Property rights, the gist of this bill is that gun owners can carry weapons in businesses that have posted signs prohibiting carrying weapons. All it takes is a day of training and slipping the state a c note.
