The gas prices are of course boring a hole in his approvals. ...but what I'm really wondering is when this stock market bubble will pop. I think we are headed for a HUGE crash but of course it's impossible to know when it's happening.

What terrifies me, is that it might not happen until democrats take control of congress or actually do something... and that will make it very easy to just pin the whole thing on democrats in the eyes of stupid people.

I saw a newspost on Facebook about some kind of returement 401k thing usable by people who don't have that option, and my first thought was "Oh shit it must be bad, they need more people to start proping up the stock market."

Me too. Musk's little AI company is using fossile fuels to power its data centers, so cost should be now astronomically high.

To be fair: this for sure is not only Trump's fault alone. The military is planning long ahead, and does its own thing. So what happened is not just Trump's fault, I mean it is, since he's commander in chief, but it goes deeper: it's a structural thing. It's a big flaw in the military complex itself running deep and long, which probably was already existant unter Biden, Trump and Obama.

Obama and Biden had actual sane adults leading the military, not a DUI hire Fox News weekend host completely out of his depth. Hegseth has purged career military service members he has deemed not loyal enough to go do war crimeing for him. Ultimately yes, it is all Trump’s fault.

Return? Where the fuck did we go?

Trump: If we return to war on Iran, it will take 2-3 weeks to complete
US President Donald Trump indicates that if he decides to return to war against Iran, it would take 2-3 weeks to achieve his goals in the war.

“We’ve taken out much of what we’d have to do, probably another two weeks, two weeks, maybe three weeks,” he tells conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

“We either make the right deal, or we win very easily from the military standpoint,” says Trump.

According to Carrot Caligula, we are no longer at war with Iran, that "all hostilities had ceased." He figures by saying that, he can get around the need to get Congress' approval to continue the war past the 60th day.
All the while Israel's still fragging Palestinians, Lebanese and possibly still Iranians for kicks.

If one co-belligerent tags out and tags back in, that doesn't mean the war's over - it means you took your bag, went home, only to decide to come back for seconds. But good luck convincing Donny boy of this one.

Reuters: US and Iran closing in on memorandum to end war, Pakistani source says

Original Axios story

ETA Also, a rather punchier account

ETA 2 A rather less punchy but equally damning take by an expert in international relations (the first part is about Ukraine but also relevant and worth reading).

And so here we are. All we see is posturing, acting, bluffs and climb downs. Trump remains as stuck as he was on April 1. And he just wants out. He has been saying to the Iranians increasingly, just give me something on nuclear weapons and this will be over and you can even keep your position in the Strait. But so far, the Iranians do not seem to be inclined to reach that deal.

As such, what Trump really seems to be doing is playing for time and trying to inject enough hope into the narrative that oil price rises are not astronomical. Maybe, he is hoping, his blockade will work, or something internally will occur in Iran to speed up negotiations. But it is a sign of his powerlessness that this is where he and the USA finds himself/itself. Trump has no way out unless the Iranians give him one, and right now they do not seem so inclined.
