The radical right in the US is not engaged in a grand geopolitical strategy. It is pursuing an ideological campaign against its true enemy, which is not China or Russia but liberalism.

The US culture war has gone global. The Trump administration hates liberals at home and liberal democracies abroad.

Indeed, “culture war” is too mild a term for what the US is inflicting on Europe. Rather it is a new cold war that includes the withdrawal of military support, the elevation of Vladimir Putin from pariah to partner, propaganda attacks, and subversion.

Britain and Germany had an early experience of the conflict when Elon Musk, who lest we forget is a member of a US administration that is meant to be our ally, used the propaganda resources of his Twitter (X) network to build up far right movements – including, in the case of my country, far right movements that were actually rioting on the streets, and threatening to burn Muslims and asylum seekers alive.

I imagine the "leaders" realize that "saying something" at this point is like yelling, "Someone help this man!" while they're zipping up his body bag.

It seems the woman in this video, and, indeed, most people still do not quite grasp that we handed the GOP the entire enchilada -- there is no institution to stop them any more than there is something to stop the north wind from blowing out of the Arctic into Chicago. The only cavalry that will ride over the hill is on their side.

We could argue the fine philosophical points of whether or not a democracy has the right to vote to end itself, but this one didn't bother with that discussion -- it just did it.

Farmers in central Alabama are beginning to panic about losing their subsidies for fallow fields, over production, and not timbering woodlands. I cannot imagine the furor we'll experience when Social Security and Medicare benefits are cut. And these are people who can (mostly) afford to live without federal income; they're simply upset for losing it. This, and lack of educational funding, will severely damage the state's economy over the next four years.

A greater concern is the people who cannot afford to lose EBA, Medicare, Medicaid, SSI, and WIC. We've worked for decades to fill the gaps and provide what we can to hold the desperation at bay. But this will be too much. These counties voted blue in a sea of red; we can hopefully work together to support each other and defend ourselves against the federal and state "governments."

Thanks, everyone. Unfortunately the Notesnook clipper extension seems very cranky -- it works when it feels like it, which doesn't seem to be very often.

Its not as fancy, but I have been using a clipper that dumps into a GitHub repository. I would need to check which later
