Back, oh, in the middle of the last century, Winter and Spring country dinners involved picking from the fields, retrieving items from the smokehouse (which included the salt cellar), and choosing "canned" mostly pickled jars from the pantry which was a large shelving system that occupied half of the back porch. It was a different life. But we did sometimes use that newfangled loaf bread from the general store.
