“I really don’t much care what Tucker Carlson thinks," one GOP senator, who asked not to be named, said. "They’re trying to bully us. That’s not how these elections work.”
"Oh no, we pushed a bunch of asshole bullies as the face of our party and they are acting like asshole bullies."

I didn't know that the actual crt tube held a charge. I thought that only applied to large capacitors that were also in the case
The graphite outer coating of a CRT, called the aquadag, carries a high charge that will throw you across the room if you touch it before it is discharged. Voice of experience.

I'm sure there will be midterms! But I'd not be shocked at all if some federal redistricting gerrymanders them into oblivion though.
I thought that individual states were responsible for drawing the boundaries of their electoral districts, using whatever method seems to them suitable, subject to the proviso they don't do anything unconstitutional (e.g. the equal protection clause).

You're correct. ...but we'll see what happens in reality. A lot of prior legal precedent has already been ditched. Many state elections went red and there is a lot of opportunity to gerrymander just at the state level too. The main point I was making is that midterms can be messed with in every way that a presidential election can, and more!

Per Rachel Maddow on Monday night, Trump has already stated that he wants Congress to recess in January, when he takes office. This will give him free reign to make appointments for all the executive branch positions without the need for approvals.

He is moving to not only consolidate all the powers of the Executive Branch -- by appointing only sycophants -- but also to make the other co-equal parts of our system subordinate to him.

We've spent decades trying to stop the GOP in general and Trump in specific from gutting our democracy. I don't see any sign that we've done anything other than drag it out.

He apparently has advisers telling him all this stuff because in my wildest nightmares I would never associate Trump with understanding the structure of government, much less assembling a coherent sentence.

He's a made up clown, and by himself could be easily dismissed.. But too many power-seeking sycophants are in his orbit now, and (like the author(s) of Project 2025) they're coming up with even more devious and evil ways to destroy us. He'll happily sign them all in order to stay in power.

All I can do is weep.

Clown, yes. Easily dismissed, no. His followers are for the most part loyal to him, and the positions of those around him are based on personal loyalty. When he meets his just reward the implosion will be bloody as others try to take over.

He's more useful to the party as a martyr after the first hundred days. But yes, the field would implode quickly, so best go the Octavian route and give him the credit. There will still be the impossible Theocrats to deal with either way.

His clown car of sycophants aren't that loyal to him either, he's useful to them. They know how to get him to sign/support what they wants and know that his inability to express anything with depth or coherency won't contradict them.

He's like a magic 8 ball. If they don't like the answer they just shake him again.

While I agree with this, my comment was aimed directly at Trump by himself. Yes, we know he has millions of sychopants. I've said that already.

But without his MAGA nazis, he would just be another whacko jerking off in the closet. THAT is my point.

Absolutely agree. He is a useful tool for the far right with a cult they can hijack.

I think anyone who fancies themselves as an "objective" observer expects Trump to fuck this up and soon. Hopefully, so badly his MAGA starts to drift off. That's been his track record most of his adult life.

The risk is that others even more dangerous (Miller? RFK?) will do something that kills people and/or gets us bombed.

Trump Is About to Screw Over Republicans’ Own Majority

With even more appointments on the way and a slim GOP majority, some Republicans have warned the president-elect’s transition team that they cannot select any more Republican representatives for Trump’s Cabinet. At least 12 other Republican House members have already been floated for Cabinet positions. Five of them are from Florida alone.

“I have 10 colleagues who think they’re going to the Cabinet,” an anonymous House GOP member told CNN. “If we’ve got a four-seat minority, you can let one or two go. But you’re not going to let three or four go.”

“I think we have some really qualified people. But I wouldn’t want to drop us down to a one, two (seat) majority tactically,” said outgoing GOP Representative Kelly Armstrong. “We have a lot of talent.… But you have to give Mike [Johnson] some room to operate.”

well i can make a prediction for the future : sure traffic on this forum will peak til end 2024, but then 2025 you will all be surprised that it's TOTALLY QUIET on this forum, because elections will be over, but interesting people chatting about 3D worlds will have left. That's how you kill a forum.
