The Biden Harris administration doesn't mess around when it comes to children burning alive.
Our brave leaders have given Israel 30 days to stop turning Palestinians into human torches.

Harris/Walz 2024
When your heart can't let children stay on fire for more than a month.

And YOUR solution is... what, exactly? Do you honestly think Trump will help the Palestinians in any way?

Oh god. Who the hell knows. 2009? 2010?

Yeah, it's a problem isn't it?

I'm not an American, so I'm speaking from a different political culture, and one in which we effectively do have more than two choices of party, so take this with that caveat . . .

. . . No one in their right mind thinks that Trump would be better for Palestinians. Indeed, no one in their right mind would vote for Trump for any reason -- unless they've cynically calculated that they have something to gain from it.

But I think we need to break out of this binary way of thinking. In particular, we need to stop simply accepting what political parties are pretending to offer us, and start demanding more. And there's never a better time to do that than during an election: this is when voters have real leverage.

The Uncommitted, Arab Americans and allies who are card-carrying Democrats, have refused to simply issue a blank cheque to a party and a government that has done nowhere near enough to end the slaughter in Gaza (and now Lebanon). They desperately want to vote for Harris, but how do you vote for someone who is part of an administration that is complicit in the massacre of, in many cases, actual family members? They've been trying to convince the Democrats to shift ground on this, and they've asked for remarkably little -- and Harris has offered even less, refusing to even meet with them.

I have a very bad feeling that this is going to come back to haunt Harris. When she first entered the race, polls in Michigan, a must-win state for her, and also the state with the highest proportion of Arab American voters, showed her more than 2 points up on Trump. They are now showing her with less than a 1% lead. There are, I think, something like 500,000 Arab American voters there.

And it's not just in Michigan; she's been losing support among young voters as well. Overall, the Democrat strategy seems to have been to try to compete with Trump for the "moderate" centre-right vote, a strategy that has alienated a lot of progressives.

It's not working.

I really believe that now is the time to start making noise about the inadequacy of Harris's platform and positions, on a range of issues, including Israel, immigration, and the economy. It's time to make the pollsters and policymakers sit up and take notice. And not just because we need more progressive ideas, but also because Harris is in very real danger of losing this if she doesn't start listening.

Reminder: Trump is the guy who spent about 500 million dollars to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and and officially recognized it as Israel's capital. He completely ignored America's traditional role as a negotiator between both sides, fully sided with Israel and threw the Palestinians under the bus.

He was a big contributor to the situation that led to the October 7th attack and the susequent war.

Of course.

But don't you think we can do better than complacently choosing between Party 1, who is arming the country committing a literal genocide, and Party 2, who would be even worse?

To make those changes in the USA one option is supermajorities in all the legislative bodies and 2/3 of the states on board, if I understand the system correctly. The other option is open revolt, in which case it would be a matter of waiting to see what the largest proportion of the US military sides with.

Like that is going to happen. Given those same rules, women still don't have constitutionally guaranteed equal rights.

Yes, that was the point I was making. Good job.

I am going to confess that I don't understand why the US has a two party system. There is, I assume, some historical or structural reason for it?

It is historical. I am too tired to give you much of an answer other than to suggest you search for some web pages on the topic because it just goes on and on.

They'll bring him to a branch that has been closed for at least two days, or to a disused branch, the food will have been cooked before he gets there and wrapped up nicely, all of the fryers and grills will have been turned off except for the lights.
He'll stand behind the counter doing that thing he does with his arms when he's unsure what they're for, grinning weirdly and saying how easy it is, and some campaign staffer playing the role of a customer will ask him for a burger and fries and he'll turn his head slightly toward the cooking area and call for someone back there to pass him a burger and fries, which he'll then give to another staffer who'll put it in a bag as he goes into word salad about how he knows more about burgers than anyone and Joe Biden is going to ban these burgers, beautiful American burgers by the way, not like the horrible things they eat in Gyna and in Springfield, Ohio, which did you know they both eat cats and dogs, and how everyone said he is the greatest at flipping burgers and that he's going to send in the military to protect the women from abortion, and the border from the transgenders, but lyin' Kamala thinks burgers are hard because she's very dumb and crazy even though she's almost as beautiful as Melania, who is an immigrant you know but nobody says that because everyone wants to say he's racist.
