Hey in case you forgot there's loads of child exploitation content on YouTube, here's another new and disturbing angle on it:

One of the levels of cringeworthy is a white dude telling brown people to maintain a European mode of decorum.

I get what you're saying, and I find the youtuber's mannerisms irritating to say the least; but I get the feeling that including children in sexual fetish content likely isn't strictly okay within the local culture where the people producing these videos live either. This is a YouTube problem, not a cultural difference.

Last year a charity called the Raise the Roof Homeless project did a nice thing and booked about 28 homeless people into a hotel for a couple of days over Christmas. I know, it's kind of papering over the cracks of homelessness but even so it's a generous act to give them a couple of days of relief at a difficult time of year. This year they planned the same thing and booked rooms for just under 30 people for Christmas, paying over £1000 in deposits.

Then, the organiser gets a call. Your booking is cancelled. The hotel refused to give a reason.

Donations flood in after hotel cancels booking for homeless people

WTF were they even doing there, then?

Seriously: if they weren't there to protect the school's students, literally what were they there to do?

Maybe the answer legitimately is "nothing". After all, Parkland has been the only mass shooting at a school thus far where the shooter was able to use up all of his ammo and then just leave the scene, despite police being present on-site. He went to the mall and got some food.

I realize it might at first sound like this rant belongs in the tech section, but I can't even do that because the subject is necessarily political, so here it goes: OMG YouTube WTactualF is going on with the "Prager U" ads????

Okay look....not long ago I used to whine and moan, only half-jokingly, about those ridiculous Udemy Guy ads I was always getting. I mean, here's the thing: on YouTube, I watch a whole heck of a lot of Blender-related content. And if you do too, you will have constantly seen Udemy ads where some guy is like "Your drawings would look great in 3D. You know, you should check out this online Blender course from Udemy..." or occasionally, "Making your own games is easier than you think. You should check out this online Unity course from Udemy...". Sometimes I see some commercials for 3D printers; but those Udemy ads are more prolific by far.

Now, even though I'm not interested in 3D printing, and even though I would rather literally gouge out my eyes with ballpoint pen than sign up for a Udemy course, at this point at least, I really can't complain about getting those ads because YouTube pretty much has me nailed as being in their target demographic: I'm watching all these Blender videos, and in point of fact I do pay for online Blender classes (from someone who sure as hell isn't Udemy), meaning they correctly deduced that I am or was recently in the market for classes of that type. Score one for the algorithms.

So now, since YouTube nailed me so well when delivering those Udemy ads, I'm wondering what on Earth I ever must've done to deserve to be served these Prager U videos now, which I've started getting over the last two weeks or so.

According to Wikipedia, PragerU is short for "Prager University"; but (kinda like Trump University), it's not actually a school of any kind - it's just a conservative YouTube channel filled with old white males giving these little 5-minute lectures about how nationalism is a good thing, or how leftists are the real racists, or how a $15 minimum wage would bring about the end of civilization, and other such old-white-male jibberjabber. For the life of me, I can't understand why YouTube thinks I would be interested in this. Unlike Blender content, which I admittedly binge on more or less constantly, the only political thing I watch on YouTube at all, so far as I can think of, is Last Week Tonight - but I last watched that like a month ago, and unless I'm just completely confused about everything I'm pretty sure John Oliver is liberal, to like a nearly comical degree even. So where does YouTube go about thinking I want to listen to right-wing boilerplates?

And the weirdest thing about it is, these little five-minute clips are appearing where advertisements appear - at the beginnings of videos I want to watch. But like, they're very clearly not "ads" FOR the PragerU channel, they're just....the channel's actual, normal content, these short conservative propaganda lectures. Except of course since the system believes they're "ads" you're forced to watch at least the beginnings of them, before you're allowed to get on with watching the videos you actually want to watch. The people who run this channel have dishonestly packaged some of their videos as "ads" and are using YouTube's ad service to push that content onto viewers who aren't voluntarily seeking it out, and apparently YouTube is okay with that.

The only ad I get on youtube is something about Do you want to get rid of ads? Get our product. They show up as a couple of lines by the bottom and inside the video. It's closeable by hitting an X at the top right of the ad. I've thought I might have a virus or something for that to keep showing up. Maybe it's because I have Ublock Origin running, I don't know. It's vaguely annoying. I'd rather have the same number of real ads.

A couple of months ago I watched a lot of youtube videos about the autonomous kurdish region Rojava (now Democratic Federation of Northern Syria). Those videos were unbiased or pro-kurdish documentations. After that, youtube tormented me repeatedly with Turkish anti-kurdish propaganda videos, justifying their attacks against kurdish settlements - and disguised as 'ads'.

Technically political ads are ads. Or ads are commercial propaganda. Whichever.

Innocent New York man billed $4,600 for police rectal probe - BBC News

Doctors initially refused to perform the procedure, until advised by a hospital lawyer that Mr Jackson did not have a legal right to refuse. He was forcibly sedated for the examination. After the procedure found no drugs, Mr Jackson was released and said he only learned what doctors had done when he found blood in his underwear.

"I felt tampered with," he told the newspaper.

Upon release, the hospital had a debt collectors' agency pursue Mr Jackson for the medical bill.
