An Indiana police officer and his wife face charges of child abuse and neglect after, authorities say, their 6-year-old daughter was forced to stand outside in freezing temperatures holding a humiliating sign. Passers-by saw the girl standing outside a home in Logansport in 18-degree weather during the January incident, which is just now being widely reported. The sign read, "I want to stab and kill my brother. I even take an antipsychotic. If you need to give pity then give it to the victims," WTHR reports. Concerned witnesses called 911, and one of them tells the Pharos-Tribune she knew the girl's father was a local police officer and specifically asked that he not respond to the scene. He did respond, but the woman refused to talk until a second officer showed up. That officer, however, declined to let her file a police report.

Clifford could have done worse -- he could have walked into a big city PD brandishing a gun. Instead, he walked into the Houston County, TX* Sheriff's office, where they no doubt said something like, "Aw, shit, Cliff's gone nuts again. I arrested him last time -- it's your turn."

There's something rather quixotic about him seriously thinking this dinky sheriff's office, in the middle of nowhere, was capable of doing anything at all about "all them illegals." (Assuming one of the vehicles in the SO's parking lot is Clifford's, there are about half a dozen people who work at that office, and the whole county has just 22,000 folks.)

I am sure I have said it before. A lot of conservatives, have zero, ZERO grasp of large numbers, at all.

And its a decent contributor to a lot of their over exaggerated rage about everything.

Like how they keep pushing "20 Million Illegals". Which is like, 10% of the population of Mexico and Central America. That is a huge percentage, and extremely implausible.

The funniest thing about that, I go out a lot. To a lot of different places both in cities and in the sticks. Number of people I've seen openly carrying: 0. Why? No clue. I don't open carry because A: I think it is stupid and B: If I was a shooter I would aim for the open carry folks first. We can also legally open carry swords and axes now too. Honestly though....that'd be cool. I'd rather see that.

Unhoused Seattle man runs for mayor from a tent: ‘It’s a humanitarian crisis’

Joe Molloy says he never planned to enter politics.

But after moving to Seattle and losing his job during the pandemic, a year ago he found himself evicted and living in a tent encampment. After losing his home, he learned the hard-scrabble skills of what was required to live on the streets from other homeless people, the location of free food banks, and which organisations offered showers and toilets.

At the encampment, he’d speak to other residents and hear stories very similar to his. He became convinced there had to be a better, long-term solution than the dozens of tents pitched alongside his own.

It was from this tent that Molloy launched his unlikely bid for Seattle’s highest office, seeking to unseat the incumbent mayor by tackling the crisis “head-on” and pushing a progressive agenda including everything from a living wage and access to healthcare.

Working out of a shared office space in the city-sanctioned encampment, known at Tent City 3, Molloy is running his campaign via social media and “word of mouth”. He still sleeps in a cot, braving the elements in the famously rainy city where temperatures often fell below 20F this winter.

Texas has long had problems with sex toys. There's the "original" obscenity statute from 1973, that tries to outlaw them outright Then they tried to limit how many sex toys you can own (6!). All this has been ruled unconstitutional, but that doesn't stop Texas from keeping the laws on the books.

And there's the recent attempt to restrict where you can sell them.

The Texas legislature likes to claim they will "always fight to protect our children," but the fight always seems to focus on their sexuality and not their lives.
