No that's where the word originally comes from. The name was invented for the novel. Anime culture borrowed it directly from that source.

I've heard a few stories recently, in different subjects, but still...I never underestimate the extent of people's ignorance these days.
Also, the novel Lolita was written in 1955. I think it's safe to assume that Japanese school uniforms were invented before that.

But was it called a 'Lolita' outfit ? I think the schoolgirl fetish was probably around well before Lolita was written.
