I don't recall the last time I saw a police officer on neighborhood patrols.

The dc metro has a police force too. They are NEVER in high crime areas but you can usually find several all hanging out in a place where the worst crime is going through the gates without paying.

What I want to know is, how do they think they're going to make their invasions look justified? I searched "riots in Chicago", and there were some clashes, but anything major was almost two months old. NYC, even less. There was an incident on the Brooklyn Bridge a few weeks ago, but otherwise, peaceful stuff.
Are they going to stage things?
People will be filming, there will be plenty of video evidence to call them liars, as there is now. And the "great job" Dump says they did is going to bring them a fckton of lawsuits and has brought more people out to protest. They haven't quelled anything. And it's lousy optics. Had no one told him that?
But then, this is a guy who thinks no one is more patriotic than he is.....

Its a little more complicated than that. There have also been fires set and tons of windows broken along with some statues gone. That said - its a really small group of people doing that stuff. The vast majority of protesters are peaceful. Last night, a bunch of "Moms for Portland" wearing bright yellow shirts went out and held the front ranks of the protesters to protect the others. Later on, they were joined by "Dads" in bright orange. Mostly, people just want the Feds gone. Portland is a very relaxed city, normally. But, they will come together to protect each other.

Good question, it's "iffy" as to whether they are military or DHS and even then they should not be deployed by the president to suppress protest.

In 2006, Congress modified the Insurrection Act as part of the 2007 Defense Authorization Bill (repealed as of 2008). On September 26, 2006, President George W. Bush urged Congress to consider revising federal laws so that U.S. armed forces could restore public order and enforce laws in the aftermath of a natural disaster, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition. These changes were included in the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 (H.R. 5122), which was signed into law on October 17, 2006.[11]

Section 1076 is titled "Use of the Armed Forces in major public emergencies". It provided that:

In 2008, these changes in the Insurrection Act of 1807 were repealed in their entirety, reverting to the previous wording of the Insurrection Act.[13] It was originally written to limit presidential power as much as possible in the event of insurrection, rebellion, or lawlessness.

That’s what I was thinking. It can’t possibly be Trump coming up with strategies and finding ways to deploy agencies and such. He has a hard time reading briefs or following what’s going on. There are people in his entourage and groups telling/suggesting to him what to do. Trump and his antics keep us preoccupied...
