The problem in the US is that Trump had validated the ignorant among us, and given a substantial part of the population permission to be utter contemptible assholes, and they enjoy it. The whole world could burn, but as long as they feel they "owned the libs," they're perfectly fine with that.

Does the UK have a propaganda arm of the Conservative Party akin to the relationship between Fox News and the GOP?

Not really, no. Much of the press -- notably The Times, Telegraph, Mail, Express and Sun -- support the Conservatives more or less consistently, but both The Times and the Telegraph (for which Johnson used to work and is normally very supportive of him) have been breaking very damaging stories about him recently (I don't know what the Mail and Express are doing because I don't read them).

Johnson's support in the country, even among Conservative supporters, has collapsed over the last two months. People are genuinely angry that we had to endure a very strict lockdown while the Downing Street operation was partying away like crazy, and Conservative MPs are now very worried about their prospects in the next election if they're seen to continue to defend the indefensible. It's going to get worse, too, as prices rise, particularly those of gas and electricity, and new tax increases become effective in April.
