For decades, drivers on Interstate 5 between Centralia and Chehalis in Washington haven’t been able to miss it — a 40-foot by 13-foot billboard featuring a hand-painted wooden portrait of Uncle Sam, along with a brief political message that often made people whoop in agreement or boil with rage.

Now those messages are almost certain to disappear.

Last Friday, the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation purchased the 3.5-acre property on which the billboard stands, paying $2.5 million in cash, according to the listing agent, Chehalis Re/Max’s Israel Jimenez.
The land, conveniently located right up against I-5, will offer various opportunities for tribal businesses and programs – and that’s what might be featured on the billboard in the future, Warnke said. If, that is, it isn’t dismantled.

The fascists are fully in charge down in Brevard County, FL.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey warned in a press conference Thursday that if any protesters “throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun,” they will be killed.

“If you block an intersection or a roadway in Brevard County, you are going to jail. If you flee arrest, you’re going to go to jail tired because we are going to run you down and put you in jail,” Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said.

“If you try to mob rule a car in Brevard County, gathering around it, refusing to let the driver leave in our county, you’re most likely going to get run over and dragged across the street.”
EDIT: MOAR of the same.

When Mike Lindell shows up in the news, somebody - but never Mike Lindell - wins.

A federal jury in Colorado on Monday found that one of the nation’s most prominent election conspiracy theorists, MyPillow founder Mike Lindell, defamed a former employee for a leading voting equipment company after the 2020 presidential election.

The jury found that two of Lindell’s statements about Eric Coomer, the former security and product strategy director at Denver-based Dominion Voting Systems, including calling him a traitor, were defamatory. It ordered Lindell and his online media platform, formerly known as Frankspeech, to pay Coomer $2.3 million in damages, far less than the $62.7 million Coomer had asked for to help send a message to discourage attacks on election workers.

Something is rotten in the military state of Denmark.

The U.S. military recently announced that four executives from some of the top tech companies in Silicon Valley have joined the Army Reserve as direct-commissioned officers. The move is part of a push to speed up the adoption of technology in the military, but as the news outlet Task & Purpose points out, it’s pretty unusual.

The Army said in a press release that the four executives are Shyam Sankar, CTO at Palantir; Andrew Bosworth, CTO at Meta; Kevin Weil, Chief Product Officer of OpenAI; and Bob McGrew, an advisor at Thinking Machines Lab and former Chief Research Officer for OpenAI.
The four men are being commissioned at the high rank of lieutenant colonel as part of a program called Detachment 201: The Army’s Executive Innovation Corps. As Task & Purpose notes, the men will get to skip the usual process of taking a Direct Commissioning Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, and they won’t need to complete the Army Fitness Test.

This is how one runs for political office in the U.S. now. It's stand-up comedy! It's horribly informative! And it's a campaign!

Well, I'm a little suspicious about that one. The article doesn't mention any official source saying that the poles are specifically 88 feet high. Trump's post doesn't say it, and a caption in one of the photos on the USA Today article says that the pole is 100 feet tall. So I choose to remain dubious.

The two 88-foot poles are set to rival the heights of monuments and memorials in the area.
(Huh? Isn't the Washington Monument much taller than that? I know these morons don't do the homework, but, JFC -- it's RIGHT THERE....)

The placement of the two 88-foot-tall flagpoles — one on the north lawn and one on the south lawn — began early in the morning of June 18.
Of course, it's possible this is another case of the press just quoting each other or, as a rather crusty editor of mine called it, "sniffing each other's butts." In a very odd twist, Newsweek claims they're 30.5 meters tall. Newsweek used the metric system without translating it into Freedom Units? :confusedcat:

The Daily Fail mentions an official source

One thing is for certain: the flagpoles Trump is having installed are big. He said they were 'about 100 feet,' although White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gave the more exact figure of 88-feet.
But it is the Daily Fail so make what you will of it.

I actually tried to lookup if there was any other way to interpret that specific number but of course only see the obvious....
I guess 88 could be a Back to the Future reference, but since Trump is the very living spiritual embodiment of Biff Tannen I highly doubt he's a fan of those movies...
