But since it's Florida news, I'll just simply assume that it says Republicans are making life worse for everyone.

I hit a subscription wall, but I was able to read enough of the article to know one thing. I was at the dog park this morning and got more quality sex ed in 30 seconds than those Florida high schoolers will ever get. So, basically, no useful sex ed, on top of an abortion ban, and you've got a state ruining the lives of young women everywhere. It's fucking disgusting!

You can usually get around news sites blocking methods by stopping the page load at a certain point, or using a text to speech plugin to access the document which is still held in the browser object

Copy/pasting the url into Google translate also works, although I still hit the paywall when I do that.

But this wasn’t just any park. This was Pease Park, a few blocks from Pease school, where our daughter went.

I know Pease Elementary School well, since I went there too, but way back in the early 60s. My family moved to Austin when I was about five years old, and at that time the skyline was nothing but vibrant green trees broken only by two buildings: the University of Texas tower and the state capitol dome.

But yeah, Texas is Texas, even in Austin. I got out of the state as soon as I could, immediately after graduation from UT. At the time, my goal was to live in an East Coast state like Connecticut -- I had an idealistic image of ivy-covered cottages and venerated bookstores. I never made it there, however, and ironically I ended up in West Virginia, which is a step up from Texas only by virtue of not (quite) being in the South.

My nephew, in the midst of his hormone treatments, has moved to Austin to be with his partner and I am now his worried, fussy old aunt. Because Texas.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is suddenly all for government spending.

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is begging the federal government to urgently “send the funds” to help the American southeast recover in the wake of Hurricane Helene, even though she herself stood in the way of emergency relief funds just last week.

Greene was one of 82 Republicans who voted last week against a continuing resolution to keep the government funded. If she had been successful, the government would have been in shutdown mode from Tuesday onward, preventing any region from receiving the critical assistance.
