In local politics from my home town I can smell the republican crap in the mailbox. No details in their four points. I am sort of doxxing my town here but it is maybe considered the second most desirable town in South Jersey. They have four big points on the front of their flyer.

Low police pay
I highly doubt it. Maybe compared to the most well off town in SJ?

Marijuana dispensaries near our kids
The middle and high schools are next to each other at the end of town. There is only one business down there, that is a farm and market. I don't know where all the grade K-4 schools are since I don't have kids. Maybe there is one within 1/2 mile of the middle of town. Who cares?

Their points 3 and 4 are probably related
dissapearing spaces thanks to overdevelopment
overcrowded classrooms

This must be related. There is a NJ state law that mandates a number of housing units be for low income families. There have been people in town who have kept this in court for years. Disappearing spaces - The only place in town is the mall which is failing. That isn't a disappearing space I am concerned about. It's a parking lot. As for the overcrowded classrooms, I think there are only a couple 100 units being built (and less children)

As for the picture on the bottom, I think that is our mayor in an unflattering picture but am not sure.

I need to get onto the local facebook group and ask the above as questions since they give no details which may win me some people who are unfriendly to me. This pisses me off.

It occures to me that failing mall spaces could probably be converted into schools pretty easily and effectively.
Schools, hospitals, apartments, hotels, data centers, offices, libraries, recreational spaces, senior housing.

Located in an abandoned 1.5 million-square-foot Sears office and distribution center in Memphis, Crosstown Concourse is an innovative vertical urban village including theaters, offices, health providers, a YMCA, a college, a high school, restaurants, and 265 apartments.

The development partnership kept community, learning, health, and art at the core and was made possible by 30 forms of public, private and philanthropic funding.

The development of High Tech High began the renovation of the Naval Training Center in San Diego into Liberty Station, now a vibrant shopping and mixed income housing center and the best example of school-centric urban redevelopment in the country.

Amazon is partnering with Simon Property Group to repurpose old malls into fulfillment centers. Some of the malls are being renovated to include housing and new mixed retail.

There are hundreds of schools in converted strip centers. In the 1990, some of the first charter schools including Highland Academy in Alaska and the first Aspire Public School in California were in converted grocery stores. iLEAD Academy is a small project-based high school in a converted strip center an hour north of Louisville. The Kearney School District office and early learning center in Kansas City is also a converted grocery store.

This is primarily about Australia, but there's no reason to suppose the popularity of erotic strangulation is is unique to that continent. The article raises the interesting question of how a dangerous practice that was very niche 30 years ago has become so widespread.

A majority of those surveyed (61.3%) had seen choking depicted in porn, although this included more men (71.4%) than women (51.5%).
For dudes at least, that's what happened. Men straight up choking their partners made its way into mainstream porn. It happens a LOT, like a very offputting amount.

The article does, though, go on to say,

The University of Sydney professor Alan McKee, who wrote the 2022 book What Do We Know About the Effects of Pornography After Fifty Years of Academic Research?, says his research indicates that porn might not be as influential on sexual behaviour as many believe. “It doesn’t have ‘influence’,” he says. “It can be a form of education.” But he adds: “You do not want pornography to be your children’s only source of information about sex. That’s absolutely key.”

Other researchers argue that pornography shapes users’ sexual “scripts” and directly influences the sexual behaviours of young people. But it is widely suggested that more research is needed to determine causal links between pornography and sexual behaviours.

Crabbe suggests the prevalence of choking might be caused by a kind of cultural “soup”, or a “confluence of factors reinforcing one another”. She adds that it can be hard to identify how we first learned of something once it’s in the zeitgeist.

“We all make decisions about sexuality in our sociocultural context,” Crabbe says. “And it’s not just about individual choice, we’re also influenced by the people around us and by the culture around us.
