Man, this case. I really hope she only gets time served.

That last part at the end where she says she played sims 4 where she could live a normal life got to me.

The sicko’s father says he was a good man and that what happened was a tragedy for both families. Made me what to vomit.

Child sex-trafficking victim who killed her abuser will finally learn her fate

Police found “hundreds” of videos of child sexual abuse in Volar’s home, including more than 20 he’d filmed himself. Some of those videos showed Kizer.

Volar was arrested and charged with child enticement and child sexual assault. But the same day, he was released. He remained free for months, and no criminal charges were officially filed.

OMG I am SO angry at the cops and the prosecutor.

Officers found her in the street, drugged and shirtless. She alleged that Volar had been paying her for sex since she was 14. She warned them that he was also filming his abuse of other girls, including one named “Chrystal.”

Volar was arrested and charged with child enticement and child sexual assault. But the same day, he was released. He remained free for months, and no criminal charges were officially filed.
In a 2019 interview, Kenosha prosecutor Michael Graveley said that his office did not know the age of the girls in the videos, and delayed filing charges until they could determine whether they were minors.
Absolute complete bullshit on behalf of the prosecutor. Who should be fired.

Edited to say that this poor child should never have been frigging arrested to begin with.

Yeah that's just another way of disguising the "women shouldn't be working" attitude to make it sound like concern for children's well-being rather than woman-hating.

Half of the people who support this are exactly the sort you'd expect, the kind who want their house to be a mini cult-compound where their 10 kids are never allowed to leave because fresh air turns you into a gay liberal; but the other half are usually those phony-nostalgia "RETURN" dickheads who in a different conversation will go on and on about the good old days when their parents used to lock them out of the house until the street lights came on.

A politics whose most fundamental idea is Make Progress Stop Happening would inevitably find itself fetishizing the torment of having to live in a world in which other people, who are not even you, are somehow supposed to matter just as much.

I’m putting this here because it does touch on the Society of “PRS”, and I found it moving.

Magic moment: Sydney aquarium filled with song after sea birds mourn death of gay penguin Sphen

In the wild when one penguin dies and their partner doesn’t know what has happened, they will typically go searching for them. Howell said this is why keepers at the aquarium felt it so necessary to show Magic that Sphen had passed, so he could understand “his partner wouldn’t actually be returning”.

The keeper said it was an incredibly emotional moment when Magic was taken to Sphen, alongside the gentoo colony and all of the staff members. Magic immediately started singing, with all the penguins around him joining in the chorus.

Matt Taibbi hasn’t gotten any better. 🐆

I've decided I'm going to donate a dollar to the Trump campaign every time someone calls me a sexist/racist/transphobe/Putin-lover. Time to start adding cost to this activity.

Oklahoma teacher's license revoked after she shares QR code with link to Brooklyn Library

Oklahoma like a few other states has begun banning books from its schools that deal with LGBTQ issues or racism, emphatically labeling them as pornography and hate speech or anti-American propaganda. Summer Boismier, a high school English teacher in the state, was decided to have stepped over the line when she put up in her classroom a link to the Brooklyn Public Library's website about banned books. The website doesn't actually provide access to the books themselves to anyone outside of New York State, but it does host a list of banned books and encourages visitors to look for them at their local libraries or other places, and generally talks down about book banning, which according to the state superintendent still counts as "providing pornographic material to children".

WCBS 880 New York, an all-news radio station that I liked to stream now and then, was shut down last night by owner Audacy. It's now WHSQ, an ESPN sports station. I liked to listen sometimes not because I live in New York (I very don't), but just because it was 24/7 just news. I started listening on an actual radio because it's a 50k-watt AM station that you can often pick up from practically anywhere east of Kansas, but I eventually took to streaming it because you can do that and the "signal" is clearer from where I am obvs.

New York has another all-news station, WINS 1010, but they're also owned by Audacy. In fact there's less than a dozen genuinely all-news radio stations in the whole country today and almost every single one of them is owned by Audacy, and being ticked at Audacy right now for shuttering WCBS, for me that basically leaves only KNWN from Seattle and WTOP from DC. Both are streamable, so I guess I have to listen to both for a time and decide which one I like most.

Yeah there are other so-called "news radio" stations besides those, there's at least one and usually several in just about every market, but they're all (every single one) always just talk stations relaying the same 6 or 7 nationally-syndicated ultraconservative pundits all day long (or most of the day anyways) and they're only "news" in the sense that they break for a rapid-fire headline summary at the top of the hour. It's a real pain because like for example, to listen to Cleveland baseball games I have to stream WTAM from Cleveland, but I can't tune in too early or leave it running after the game because I might easily get a sudden earful of Glenn Beck or Bill Cunningham or someone like that, and the commercial breaks are bad enough already TYVM.

All-news stations though aren't like that. No commentary or punditry, just actual reporting. So they're much more palatable. But they're so rare and unless you're lucky enough to live in one of the handful of markets they're in, the local news segments are all stuff you know nothing about and people you've never heard of before. But that beats having to listen to Dennis Prager trying to give you brain cancer in between headlines.

So it turns out I will be voting in the Republican primary tomorrow, just for the Senate race. I honestly think Samuals would make a better Senator that Oman, but the polling on that race is going to be a walkover of Omar over Samuals and the margin is wide enough it's not even worth voting in that race.

But in the Republican primary, they have a Trump populist with the GOP endorsement and a pretty flakey background (including not paying for child support), running against a long serving navy vet with a deep intelligence background, whose worked with NATO and seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders (for a Republican).

I am absolutely done with populists. Klobucher will nuke either one anyways, but the race on the Senate primary is close enough that I want to send a message to Republicans that backing an unethical populist over someone who seems mentally stable and is committed to fighting Putin and Xi is a "Bad dog! Bad dog!" move. I'm a strong Democrat but I also speak Republican, having spent my 20's among several of them. I'm pretty strong when it comes to national security as well. There are bad actors out there, and ignoring them to play culture war games is going to cost us severely.
The unqualified endorsed even-most-Republicans-who-know-anything-thinks-is-weak candidate won the primary.

Fortunately, Klobuchar will beat him easily, but I do wish the Republicans would have taken elections seriously and gone with someone stronger.

Doesn't NPROne stream 24/7? Audacy's never going to own public radio.
NPR streams, and my local radio station that broadcasts NPR streams too. But NPR isn't all-news either; they have a couple of news shows, but the schedule also has commentary, long-form interviews about random things, and game shows, and the local affiliate plays classical music too. It's not as bad as all-conservative-talk, and sometimes I listen in the car, but other times I just want to listen to news.
